    So most of ya know i blew the stock turbos...
    A lot knew i had talked about going a different route with the rebuild and i havent posted lately as I havent had much updates but here we are, in motion now.

    We pulled the dps to see what the gig was today and found it was just one turbo blown. Exhaust side turbine is simply gone.. Probably left it on the road as i have free flowing no Cat dual exhaust lol.


    So now that thats done, the car is going to get trailed to Proven Power in Tampa, FL where they will build a custom manifold, head flange and downpipe. Car goes to them next Sunday Dec 30.

    When i get back home again from work in alaska around Jan 18th we will pick up the car and put it all together.
    Boostaddict and Rabbitpusher will be putting it all together, so they can answer any of the more technical questions.

    The new turbo is a Precision 6466 T4 .58 a/r with 3 5/8" V band discharge. We are going to do a single 4" exhaust.

    To start the car will run on fixed boost of the wastegate spring at 15psi most likely. Once its up and running the car then gets shipped to Terry for some special TLC and boost control/tuning. Ill keep this thread updated with full disclosure and pictures of the manifold/dp fabbing will be up as soon as i get pics. Click here to enlarge

    nice... hope this works out though. there is always something that pops up and makes these single build more complicated than previously thought

    Spooky seeing no turbine wheel in that hole! Any ideas why it went? Got pictures of the shaft? Glad to see you starting on this!

    It actually felt like the whole shaft itself is gone. I'm pretty sure the compressor wheel and shaft are probably sitting in your intercooler. Hopefully in one piece...

    Shaft snapped it looks like. Backpressure is a huge enemy on these units as boost goes up. This is why I've said many times in the past that raising boost high and keeping it flat on any stock frame N54 turbos is a bad idea and it just needs to be tapered heavily if 1) you want them to last and 2) have a more efficient better performing setup. We've seen many times where less boost on these cars can mean more power and better consistency, especially up in the higher RPMs.

    In any case, that's behind you now and bigger better things are coming for your n54 it looks like. Good luck with the project. Looking forward to how you make out with it.

    Woah, that's pretty sick. Another custom single setup, with one badass turbo too. Huge potential for this turbo, I hope the spool wont be that bad. The A/r on the exhaust housing is small but still the size of that turbo is huge.

    yes something to do with having the bigger housing (T4) for more flow and power potential while tryin to keep the spool a little faster Click here to enlarge

    .58 A/R is pretty tiny for that size of turbo isn't it? If you're running an EL manifold, I'm concerned it might choke it up a bit. Either way, it's very easy to swap out after the fact.

    .58 does sound small, but keep in my we are working with a 66mm turbine wheel, a low rev limit, and a mediocre flowing head. No doubt that we won't really see the potential of this turbo with that housing, but right now the goal is a wide power band, and 10 second passes. I'm confident we can get 600+ with that housing though. Eventually it will be swapped for a larger one, but Dan will need a tranny first.
