    GT35r evo 8 vs GT28 GTI

well took the new evo out for some runs. didn't turn out as i expected but oh well. that's why you show up, to race right? EVO 8 is GT35i kit @ 21psi and fully built, GTI is GT28 APR shop car, stage 4.

EVO is supposed to have 427HP and the GTI is supposed to have around 385, both on pump gas. Both cars are new to the owners and have not been dynod since ownership.

i haven't decided on the injectors or meth yet. i have the 400lph walboro that i was gonna put in the 335i but i can't figure out which injectors are best for e85 so i think i'm going meth.

As a former Evo owner, please do not run meth if you have E85 available in your area. What size injectors do you currently have right now with your setup? Actually, what is the full setup that you have?

For the record, with RC 1000cc injectors, walbro fuel pump, full turboback exhaust, ets intercooler, forge mbc, perrin intake and a custom flash tune for e85, I made 414awhp/404awtq on stock turbo. With that GT35r kit, you definitely have the potential to reach around 600awhp with high boost, but you just might need larger flowing injectors if you were to run E85 (trust me, its sooooooooo worth it).

Damn I miss my Evo....Click here to enlarge

This is only a stock frame upgraded turbo on E85. A GT35r kit on E85 would be heaven. Click here to enlarge

Since you don't have upgraded pistons/rods, I personally wouldn't go too crazy if this is your daily driver. Stock pistons/rods are generally good up to 400awtq, anything more than that, well then you are just playing a game of russian roulette.

With a larger set of injectors (2000cc seems plenty) and a custom retune on e85, you will make a lot of power and still be able to ramp up the torque gradually so you don't shock your drivetrain components while still keeping it safe with your stock pistons/rods.

Previous owner isn't sure if the internals are built or not. He said the gaskets are not stock but he never took it apart. I'm going out of town tomorrow so i've decided to drop the car of at my shop for the week and have them drop the oil pan to see if the rods are stock or not. I've ordered FIC 1250s in preparation for a custom e85 tune. I'm looking hard for a used transfer case i can buy and send to shep for rebuild. This one is stock and is a little noisy. Worries me a little.

A built transfer case, and a built trans will be your best friends on that platform. Shep is the way to go. You've already got a Twin Disc, so address the other common faults before they break. It's much easier that way, especially if you plan to track the car and launch it frequently. I would also suggest ditching those HKS cams and picking up some Kelfords. You seem to be running fairly low boost as well. For what it's worth, I daily drove a 400whp Evo IX for about 3 years before this car. I know there's some other knowledgeable former Evo owners on here as well, but feel free to pm me if you've got any questions about the platform. My car was a full bolt on, cammed, FP Red car on a safe daily driver tune. Rnm is right about playing Russian roulette with torque any higher than 400(depending on the dyno). My tuner's rule for Evos was 400whp is a solid, reliable DD, but anything over that and you will start finding weaknesses. But with that said, I have a friend that beat the hell out of his 600+ whp Evo VIII for 2-3 summers, making 10.0 passes and the only thing that took the stock block out was a failure with a fuel pump and the car went way lean at the drag strip.

AC compressor clutch exploded this morning. I thought I threw a rod bearing the car was running so bad LOL. I was supposed to hit the 1/4mi this weekend but not sure it'll be fixed by then. If not, it'll be getting FIC 1250cc injectors, 400lph Walboro e85 pump, Omni 4 bar, AEM adjustable cam gears, FP HTA 3586r billet turbo, and I'm thinking new cams after many recomendations of ditching the HKS, then new pump and e85 tunes.

What do you guys think about HKS 280/280 cams? I know GSC S2 and Kellford 272/272 are the industry standard for high HP 4G63 right now. I can get a pretty good deal on the HKS 280/280 and figure they have to perform similar to the Kellford 272/272. Do you think the idle will suck too bad to DD the HKS 280/280?

The idle on HKS 280/280 really won't be that bad if you ask your tuner to adjust it. Its going to lope no matter what, but its definitely not as bad as you might think.

If you can get a really good deal on them, then I'd personally jump on them.

Let us know how the rest of your setup comes about!

Let us know how everything turns out. My buddy just finished his full build on his evo

Here is a list of parts from what I can remember off the top of my head
    - Ross race pistons 9.5:1 ratio
    - K1 technologies connecting rods
    - Magnus intake manifold
    - Gsc S2 camshafts
    - Ported and polished head with titanium valves springs and retainers
    - Buschur racing ported exhaust manifold
    - FP Black turbocharger (ball bearing)
    - Buschur racing double pumper fuel setup
    - upgraded fuel lines and fuel rails
    - open source ecu reflash
    - speed density conversion

His car made 475whp on 25psi if I remember correctly. He is now just waiting on an ignition system to come in from Buschur. After that I think he's gonna crank it up to 31psi and see what numbers he lays down. The car pulls like an absolute friggen freight train. Taking a ride in his car makes me want to pick up an evo 9 but finding one that hasn't been molested to $#@! is near impossible.

Best of luck with the rest of your build!

    FIC Fuel Rail
    Gates Blue Kevlar Timing Belt
    Omni 4 BAR MAP Sensor
Used Transfer Case to send to Shep for rebuild
HKS Exhaust (mine is just way too loud)

I'm still waiting to hear back from the guy on the HKS 280/280 cams.
