interesting. Would you say for bmw's they are not so great? seems like he likes vw's/audi's, and P cars alittle more. They take more time with other makes?

I don't know if they take more time with others makes and that may not be a fair characterization. It seems that GIAC has a better understanding of cars in the VW group than those of BMW.

I think folks are comparing apples to oranges here too though.. Is there anyone here who doesn't think any tuner could do a better tune than say simply putting a Shark Injector tune on the car? A massed produced tune is never going to be as good as a one off custom tune. The tune OE tuning did for this VF Stage III kit could run lean, or preform poorly on another car with a similar setup. You guys shouldn't be comparing a "canned" tune to a custom tune.. they are not the same by any stretch.

With that said.. I got the new VF alpha N tune for the stage II (version 3 I think). It didn't solve my idle surge, but it doesn't happen as often now. I'm not unhappy with VF/GIAC's tune.. but I do plan on getting a custom tune by OE Tuning for the exact reasons I stated above.

I agree 100% and people seem to forget this about a lot of kits. I think the Gintani setups deserve more respect in this sense as unlike ESS and VF the tunes aren't canned, they are custom tunes.

From hanging around a few highly modded P-car owners, most have told me that GIAC is either mediocre or junk. Don't know why.

They are popular and have a good rep with nice features like a flash loader that can hold several tunes for Porsches.

Do a search on 6speed and Google. I did one for GIAC and found a few things negative about them pretty quickly

I search 6speed frequently, trust me Click here to enlarge There are a lot of guys who are hapy as well, don't dismiss it. A few people feel GIAC is behind the times. There is an interesting Sotronic vs. GIAC thread that provides some good perspectives but also keep in mind the Softronic dealer is very vocal on 6speed.

FWIW, a GIAC tune/exhaust only 996tt owns the WR for the fastest trap speed on K16(stock) turbo's, 126MPH, they also tuned the fastest E90 335I in the 1/4 mile, as well as the fastest trap and 1/4 mile ET for any NA E92 M3, 60-130 as well.

But I do agree that they are more focused on other platforms, most of their time and efforts are in the VAG world - VW, Audi and Porsche, and Mike is right not everyone is happy with them, but then again I would say ever tuner has some negative reviews. But they are good at what they do, could they do more for the FI S54, probably, but my VF E46 M3 did pretty well, the unacceptable problems that Mike and others had are more of a VF responsibility, not GIAC.

Jeremy, is an excellent tuner and I have a lot of faith in his abilities and trust his philosophy with regards to tuning, I've seen it first hand with my own car, his enthusiasm is unmatched as well and from what I know he has seen the GIAC tune, it's there guys. I have no doubt that he would never post his personal thoughts about it, or bash it, because that's the kind of person that he is, I have never seen the guy post a negative thing about anyone else's product, his results speak for themselves and more will go to him for custom tunes, but I will tell you that he spoke highly of Garrett Lim, the owner of GIAC.

    OP, congrats on the #'s!

Garret Lim is a great guy. I met him back in the day at a gas station on the way to the Fontana Drag Strip when I was just a kid. I saw the GIAC sticker on 1.8t A4 and he took some time to talk cars with me before heading to the strip. It wasn't until later I learned that he was the owner, just a very nice guy.

Like you said, each tuner has happy and unhappy guys but GIAC has a lot of satisfied customers especially in the VAG world.

I trained in those products and seems to be doing well in that market. Next time I run into him I will help out more with the bmw stuff guys.

Don't get me wrong, I would trust GIAC's tune on the VAG platform, but it seems they have fell behind and their customer service lacks at times as well.

Drew, who is has the fastest 1/4 335 with a GIAC tune? From what I have seen JB3's are the quickest ones out there? And with all due respect, the e92 fastest 1/4 and 60-130 are all thanks to you, and probably wouldn't exist if it weren't for you. I don't think anyone else goes out and tries for these times as hard as you do, or is as successful as you are at getting them. I'm sure you could have done the same if not better with a Powerchip, OE Tuning, ect tune...

Mr. 5 is his screen name, it's Craig who's been to the track quite a bit, I should clarify, it's the fastest E90 6MT, and the fastest ECU Flash 335I. No doubt JB3 seems to have the most consistent quickest times and the cars are very quick, but what Craig's times and results do show, is how decent the tune is, FWIW when he was on pump +Meth we were pretty close in Mexico runs, about the same results I had against a JB3 on MS109.

Appreciate the compliments my Brotha, but I only tried to get those times twice at the track! 60-130 it took quite a few times to hit the 10.71, but one of my first runs was a 10.87, I don't think anyone else has hit that yet, but I do agree that with PC or another tune I probably could have hit the same times.

Here is the AFR graph. This was a tailpipe sniffer and the Zeitronix wideband inside the car read 11.3's at the header collector throughout the powerband. As you can see the car is out of fuel pressure at the top of the powerband.

Very nice numbers. About time there is another option for VF hardware and a different tune.

IMO, I see nothing wrong with their hardware. It's just there tuning. \

BTW, who is OEtuning?? I have never heard of them.

Pretty nice AFR's right up to around 7700rpm. An inline fuel pump would be a great addition.

A long time tuner that started his own company. From what I have seen he is an amazing tuner and great guy!

OE Tuning has been a God's send in MB tuning and looks like he is creating the same waves in the BMW world also. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him to anyone, powerful tunes that are safe! Can not ask for more then that.

I agree, seems the tuning is the larger issue as the hardware is solid.

OE Tuning is a new tuning company.
