Why would they have the N54? It's N55 from here on out.

Yes BMW is moving to Valvetronic motors and the N55 began replacing the N54 in cars a while ago.

Except for the top of the line cars where it's not all about emissions/fuel consumption: e.g. 1M Coup.

The only real replacement for the N54 will be the next M3/M4 engine.

1M coupe production ended and the top of the line cars like the M5/M6 moved toward Valvetronic so not sure what you are talking about. Same thing with the N63TU cars.

Well, to be super pedantic, I left out the 1M since the car is no longer in production. The only cars that can be purchased new with the n54 is the 335is or the z4drive35is. Click here to enlarge

Well i was hoping for the epic n54 to be in production a little longer, I sold my 335i and is already trying to find a reason to buy a third car so I can get a reason to get a n54 vehicle again Click here to enlarge

But I guess a nice used z4 35is would be possible to sell the wife on Click here to enlarge even if a N54 X1 would be the greatest idea in a long time...

The more I drive my N54 and N55 back to back, the more I appreciate the N54. It really pulls harder than N55 in higher RPMs. But have to say how nice N55 is in achieving torque in lower RPMs but def doesn't pull as hard as N54 in higher RPMs.
