    n54 vs n54

Got a call from a buddy tonight who wanted to line up a race. I asked him what it was and he told me another n54 so for the sake of science i drove out to his house and lined up with the other 335i

    My car's mods:
    auto coupe
    jb4 g5 iso
    Dci
    vrsf downpipes and intercoler
    muffler delete
    50/50 E85 and 93
vmr vb3 18" (not that it really matters much)

His car: or at least what i could see/ what he told me
    manual sedan
    active autowerke tune
    simota intake
    raceland downpipes
    active autowerke intercooler
he also told me one of his mods is upgraded n55 coilpacks
    stock wheels and tires

We raced 3 times all were pretty much slaughter.

first run was a 40 roll he honked jumped a bit early but i instantly pulled him in and by 130 i was ahead by 6 cars.

second race was a 20 roll we hit it at exactly the same time and i pulled about the same amount but by a lower mph maybe like 100

the third race was a 60 roll and i pulled him hard once again.

Overall i think what i learned today was:
    A... that e85 works wonders
B... that active autowerkes tunes arent ideal... at all

also my passenger said something i have never really realized until today. He said "the thing thats impressive about this car isnt its acceleration to 60 or acceleration to 100 its the fact that once you get to those triple digit speeds it keeps pulling like it does down low"

Since it is a completely N54 topic it makes more sense here.

ok cool yeah i felt it belonged here but it was racing so i put it over there. If for instance i raced a vette or audi it would go over in racing correct?

N55 coil packs? What's that all about?

He's at a disadvantage already with the 6mt unless he's a great driver. E85 is awesome. I'm not sure about the AA tune. You should have got it on vid!

First off, you had a passenger and you have no vids????? Active just started pushing their new flash tune. The old one was a very long time ago and didn't make it real far because of having to mail in your ECU or find a pro-tuner etc. With the advancements in the flash tuning lately, i wouldn't be surprised to see some better AA tunes out there.

6MT at a disadvantage from a roll? Any MT that isn't no-lift shifting now days needs a driver mod. Now that I NLS I feel that I have an advantage over any AT from a roll. I can shift almost as fast and I have to shift less. 40 or 50 rolls, I smash ATs wtih equal mods.

Now from a dig is a different story LOL Click here to enlarge

no videos were taken mostly because it was late at night and the road was pitch black so cell phones wouldnt have done the trick and the only video camera i have was about 30 minutes away

also about the n55 coil packs i have no idea he said he was having misfires and those fixed it thats all he said..

I can't get NLS to work... Mine leans out during the shift and doesn't hold boost. I think its because I still have stock DPs.

The E85 will make a huge difference. I am surprised he was even within 6 car lengths. E85 mix with 91 adds close to 70-80hp for me compared to Map 1 with 91 only.

You know what's funny, I never find an N54 to race Click here to enlarge Back when @ERM324 had his 335xi, there was someone to regularly run against, but now all I get are non-N54's, e.g. 5.0's, M3's, C63's.

I'm guessing but it could be your opponent needs some driving lessons. MT always has a leg up on rolls.
I have to try the E85 juice with my GIAC race flash. Anybody want to guesstimate what it will yield??? Current dyno numbers are 405/442 hp/tq.

That's not necessarily true, the AT has better gearing 2nd through 4th, but if you're talking high speeds, the MT will start closing.

Auto's have a huge advantage over manuals, unless you have no lift shift.

Contingent on the roll speed (above forty mph) the mt has an advantage.

Not yet...the recent GIAC move has thrown a wrench on testing their race file. But the good thing is the cold weather will lend to great testing on a number of runs I'd like to do including the horny e85 juice.

haha, swing on by here anytime we can set something up. I still need to race @Mthis I know, contrary to what he's been saying, I have not been chickening out, just haven't had time.

yeah his car did not have no lift $#@!. and the 6 car figure is me pulling 6 cars in under 100mph faster than the speed of the roll. by the time i hit the standard 100mph faster than the roll it was nothing less than bus lengths.

also i asked him if he was on any forums and he said he signed up for e90post but never goes on. Im still confused about n55 coil packs on an n54...

Not surprised at all. Your AT transmission has a decent advantage over MT from a roll and a launch.
