Finaly got my fricking CNC machine!

After six longs months, six weeks late, this showed up at my door this morning. Little bit about the specs. It has a 16" gantry, 13kw head (about 17 hp), turns 18,500 rpm, can cut 700 inches p/min, can turn a 1"/10" bit with .0001 degrees of deflection, 10 position automatic tool changer, a working envelope of 60"/96", can cut anything from foam, wood, aluminum, brass and plastic. Automatic vacuum hold down system, I use Visualmill Expert CAM and Autodesk Inventor CAD. We needed the power and gantry of a milling center, much like a Haas, but we also needed the working envelope of a cnc router, so the guys at Camaster were willing to take a crap ton of our money to make it happen. Anything I can dream up in CAD this thing can cut it out(so long as it doesn't have back draft. The funny thing is we are about to order a 24" gantry so we can cut out lager tooling...and it might be a 5 axis, but a guy can only dream.Click here to enlarge

the problem is you cannot just go buy this machine, Camaster makes off the shelf routers for about 15k, but this is custom from the table up. It's like buying a car and checking all the options, it starts to add up. It's funny because people ask me why I'm desiging n54 parts without owning one, and I say it's because I had to buy this (and adopt a baby, that's as much as a car too).

ya, I can now cut out in hours what used to take me days or even weeks to make. It's like The Terminator, It doesn't eat, sleep, it has no fears, it just cuts.

Figure out a way to borrow from the government. If the car companies can borrow billions I'm sure they'll let you borrow a couple of hundred measly grand.

You can get grants to buy CNC machines. This machine didn't qualify.
