    Replace MSD80 ECU

can anybody shed some light about the possibility of just replacing the ECU? I understand that recoding would be necessary but will the car start ?
There are some pretty cheap ECU on ebay for sale.

See the other forum, there is a thread about repair dme. It is a very cheap repair.
That guy had the exact same problem, one injector not receiving command from dme.

The car will not start with another ECU...THere is alot involved as the DME is coded to the Vin of the car. Not an easy task to get it working for the MSD80 ECU...Dealer would be the best option to get it working as there are not too many coders that would be able to take on that coding. I tried to check for the Coil voltage and I couldnt really find anything that pertain to that, but I didnt have too much time on my hands but I will try again today if time allows me..

My DME went out about a month ago and the car ran like $#@!, misfiring and shaking the whole car. I took the DME apart and found two bad MOSFETs, Luckily another member let me borrow his old broken DME and I fixed mine with two MOSFETs from his that were still good. Car runs like a champ and has been since.

You can also get replacement MOSFETs from digikey.com (they cost around $1.20 each)

Your other option is Tischer has DME's and they will code them before they ship it to you.

FWIW, DMEs are covered under the emissions warranty for 8 years or 80k miles...at least on this side of the ocean. It's in your service and warranty manual. Just FYI

Awesome. Forgot about that... I might need one of those. I am getting cylinder 5 misfires... How do you diagnose whether or not the DME is at fault without swapping the plugs and injectors? I guess I can move them around and re-code the injector, but there must be a way to check the MOSFET?

You can swap in a used DME from another vehicle. You need the DME, CAS, and key-fobs in order for it to work properly. The control units may also need to be re-coded.

I found a bad transistor in my MSD80 by unplugging the injector/coil connectors and testing continuity/resistance for all 6 cylinders.

I wonder if a car is plagued by timing flatlines would replacing the ECU fix the issue? As long as the new one isnt a flat liner...

I can have c16 and be on map 1 if i shift to 4th around 6k my timing flat lines... I wonder if ecu replacement would change this

I can't remember all the codes
30BB Bank 2 or ECU failure was one of them
and I had multiple missfire codes.

My problem ended up being cylinder 5&6 MOSFETs failed.

Got a new DME for a different car, did not come programmed. Requires a dealer or Autologic to completely program a new DME. Coding is different than programming, with programming being the more involved process. Takes 15-60 minutes per module depending on what it is doing.

DMEs are NOT interchangeable once programmed. They write VIN and other information in there. You may have luck with https://www.rpmmotorsport.net/ since they can delete/rewrite the programmed information on a used DME, but I don't know whether they can do it on the MSD80, yet. They can program instrument clusters, older DMEs for engine swaps, etc, and they're very good at what they do.

But I think your misfire is going to be oil contamination/PCV. Let us know the progress.
