Will we get a new M Roadster or M coupe?

The M roadster and the M coupe have been some of the best drivers cars BMW has ever produced. The E85 Z4 M coupe in particular is one of my favorites:

With the new E89 Z4 being a hardtop convertible it makes things a little more complicated. Will they do a separate coupe or is too much money invested in it being a hardtop? If they ditched the hardtop similar to the SL65 black series the car would drop a lot of weight and be a beast if paired with the S65 V8.

BMW has been quiet in this area but the M coupe and M roadster are just some the purest M cars they have made. It would be a shame if they don't do it with the new Z4 considering they have already done it for racing. Who would mind something like this:

    Mechanical differences? Curb weight?

I know there is wikipedia but it's almost always better to talk to an owner/enthusiast.

Anyone here have some review material?

The Z4 is heavier and stiffer. The Z3 is called the clown shoe but I like it.

It's really personal preference. The Z4 also has a harder to tune ECU.

Looks like Z3 has a "worse" rear suspension design....

Both similar curb weight stock from what I could find....

Looks like Z4 is the winner.... any warnings before I look for one?

That's right it is apparently an E30 architecture.

BMW needs a two seat sports car, with a fixed roof.

HPDE days I attend you can't even drive a vert.

<sarcasm>They just gave you the i8!! The purest sportscar of them all Click here to enlarge </sarcasm>

It's a cool car - but it's not what an enthusiast would want for a track. I would love for BMW to make an ZM again - but keep it pure. Bring back the S65, add some new technology to it (maybe DI, and some hotter cams?) - shoehorn it in a true sportscar, and you almost instantly bring back "faith" from the M purists. I would buy one just to support them. Seriously.

Yeah it would mainly be because I love convertibles now and we could replace the miata.... they don't weigh as much as I thought they did.... I'm pretty sure there is some sort of event I could do at MSR Houston.... If not I have my Z and my 240sx

LOL, thanks BMW. (it is a 2+2 anyways)

Funny thing is, during the Best Driver's Car test. The i8 lost electric power after only 3 laps. They had a 6 second difference in lap time from lap 1 to lap 3. Laguna Seca is short track too.

Yeah, the track times that thing is putting out is impressive, you are right for sure on that. If they could just hold the energy longer, it would be worthwhile - otherwise, it's just a toy for driving around town (assuming the driver would drive it like a sports car should be driven).
