Actually different motor displacement with the same hp/tq numbers or so they claimed... Much better suspension geometry, the AP1 chassis was twitchy especially when lowered

You want AP2... I had an AP1 with the FULL Comptech catalog installed. Blower, headers, exhaust, intake, suspension, brakes and so on. The issue was that these cars live at 6000pm and higher, so below that even with a blower it was a dog. The turbo cars fair better, but teh AP2 is more refined and better handling from the door. I'd start there

    AP2 uses a 2.2L motor, revs were dropped from 8900 to 8000 i believe.

I'd rather have the 9k RPM than the 200cc's.

With equal turbo setups, is one stronger or more reliable than the other?

Don't know but I have seen the 2.0 liter hit 600 something on stock internals with a turbo.

The retainers on the AP1 tend to crack. The AP2s make a good bit more trq due to the extra 200ccs. The AP1s have slightly weaker diffs (ap2s only slightly better), the AP1s don't have a clutch delay valve (easily removed from AP2s).

All in all, the AP1 is just a bit more raw, however if you are going to build one for boost, the ap2 is a better platform, plus the front bumper, headlights and rear lights of the AP1 make the car look fairly dated IMO

Both the AP1 & 2s have forged internals from the factory

IT saddens me to see a lot of older ones in the hands of the "hellaflush", sticker bomb crowd, lol. It's getting hard to find an unmolested one for a decent price

Why is the AP2 better if you can just take all the parts that are updated and put them on the AP1? With boost don't you want the higher redline? I would. 200cc's really isn't much but almost a 1000 rpm sure is.

Headlights and rear lights can be changed, not a big deal.

You're right, another option is to just increase the AP2 redline via EMS as well. A few guys rev it to 10,500. Believe it or not the extra 200ccs increases mid range trq by a decent amount. I make 456ft lbs, where similar set up AP1s make high 300, low 400s, of course there are a million other factors that determine trq...

bottom line is you could make an AP1 just as fast with little bit more work

Aren't the cams different for the 2.2? You can rev them out to 10.5k?

Im not sure to be honest, I know Real Street Performance down in Orlando ran 9s on a stock 800+ hp F22 revving to 10k +.I used to run water/meth injection which kept the EGTs down a bit, as well as keep the valves relatively clean, now I just spray straight water with the q16. I have Supertech Inconel exhaust valves, but with the two step launch control I don't want to rev it out past 8,500.

Any particular reason? You said you don't want to go past 8500.
