    New or Used 135i

Hey guys im new to the forums and had a relatively simple question. Im in the market for a new 1 Series and after speaking to a good friend of mine he directed me here to ask if it would be better to get one used or new? I would like to do simple mods to it eventually and wouldnt mind waiting if that was the case for the new N55s to mature a little. I know absolutely nothing about BMWs and would appreciate any advice or feedback that can help me out on this. I just sold my Nissan 300zx and will be joining your community soon enough just need some direction. Thanks! Click here to enlarge

Glad to have you here, welcome.

If you are going to get a used one then you will up with the N54 twin turbo and not the N55. The new 2011 135's use the N55. So, you would have to but new to get it.

However, the new 135's also have the DCT transmission which the older variants in the USA do not. If you want to tune, the N54 model has more mods right now but I expect the N55 to surpass it.

Really depends on your finances and what your looking to spend and do. For instance, my car was $49980 sticker price, but i picked it up for 26k used, allowing me to put a whole lotta $$ into it.

Are they difficult to mod for a DIY person? Im use to my 300zx that was a real pain in the ass to do just about anything to.

P, glad you found your your way over here and so happy you are planning on joining the BMW community!

I would personally save 15k+ and buy a nice used 335 in the 24-28k range and use some of the money you save to mod it and pocket the rest.

If you have your heart set on the 135, I'd attempt to at least find one used.

The main question however is the n55 going to be able to be modded to the level of the n54? Anyone know more about that?

Single turbo is more efficient, I expect it to surpass the N54.

We will have to wait and see but turbo upgrades should be easier on the N55. The N54 just has a large development lead right now but no reason the N55 can't do the same, if not more.

Instant bang for the buck, used N54 135i with Tune and meth.

N55, it's hard to tell what will happen with this engine. I don't think it's as bad as people make it out to be, it's just in it's infancy. So far it is evolving at about the same rate as the N54 did (tune-ability a little on the slow side).

But nothing beats a good old used N54, seriously.
Some people live long, meaningful lives.

Other people eat shit and die.

I'm not racist, I hate everybody equally; especially fat people.
