    anyone running w/o lower shoud?

Just curious but anyone out there running without the lower under body shoud? Seems to me might be little better for cooling as the factory designed heat to go out the bottom of the car vs the top. I ran all summer without the top shroud but it seems to me bmw wanted heat out the bottom.

I have been running without the bottom panels for years. I do think they create aerodynamic problems at high speed, maybe a bit more drag. Other than that nothing bad has happened.

Ive run without mine for over a year.Only negative ive found is front bumper cover with vibrate at higher speeds and lights vibrating gives you a weird strobe light affect. Also be careful pulling up to park or youll catch your bumper cover on a curb and pull the bumper cover off your car.

I keep mine on for protective reasons (rocks, potholes, etc etc). I've also never had unusually high temps (250+), so not exactly in need of extra cooling

I can't remember where I read this, but someone did testing and removing it had NEGATIVE effects.

It will affect negatively at high speeds for sure.

That is going to cause more drag and instability at high speeds. If you have cooling issues I would advise solving that problem correctly: added oil cooler, trans cooler, bigger radiator, ducting, etc.

All it takes is a rock to wedge itself under the engine drive belt. Click here to enlarge

I can't remember the exact details, but the change in pressure apparently causes a significant decrease in the intercooler (or was it radiator) efficiency. I'll try and see if I can find the data again to make sure I'm not spreading any false info haha.

i've been running without the shrouds for a few years now... probably a horrible idea since many of my 85k miles have been ripping around vermont in tons of salt/snow/ice/etc. So far so good, save for some rusty o2 bungs on my downpipes

I haven't seen any tests on this kind of thing it years but for cars that only have the front under cover as most did since the 80's they found it caused turbulence in the engine compartment which in some cases raised the coolant temps slightly. I would imagine that if you were going to try this it might be beneficial to use 3/4 or 1/2 of the shroud leaving the front area alone.
