I think M wants to keep the 1M low on power out the box so not to mess with the M3, but want it to outhandle the regularf 1 series and come damn close if not better handling than the M3 which is what makes this car a M, esp with it being every lighter than a 135i

All 'M' cars should be as fast or faster than non-M models. If this thing is slower than the F10 550i it is fail. BTW, any stock E9x M3 comparos (races) with the F10 550i?

550i is no slouch! I'd love to see a E90 M3 and a F10 550i in a drag race. As far as the 1M coupe, I'd love to see it hang with a car like the 550i, but honestly want it to at least edge out the E46 M3 in handling and speed.

The E9X M3 will be slightly faster on the top end, we are talking like 112 vs 110 traps in the favor of the M3. Down low though the 550i has a good amount of torque and is comparatively easy to launch.

    Whatever.

This thing is still anticlimatic. BMW had a real chance to make something great, but recycling motors like the N54 in future platforms is less then desireable. Yea, it saves cost, blah blah. But frankly, the M car shouldn't be about saving cost. It should be about setting itself apart from other cars in the lineup.

Get a 135i, add a JB3, Quaife, and you're set. And by that time, you can already get one preowned and save some major cash.

I love the N54 like everyone else, but this is just disappointing.

    One more thing....

You know BMW isn't going to make what they define a "mistake again". there are most certainly going to be certain parameters that exist with the DME/ motor/ etc that make this car nearly impossible to modify.

I'm getting real sick of BMW making it so difficult for us to modify our vehicles, REAL sick of it.

If its really just an n54 then this car was a total waste of time. There would be no reason to sell mine as it is already better then the M that hasn't been released.

I would have been real happy with a car with even less horsepower than 345hp. A stripped out, light weight, turbo 4-banger. Something unique.

I am still waiting for final specs, hoping for something unique.

The word is they are using a ton of parts transfered over from the M3.

I agree with you Sticky; this is exactly what I said before. With these cars going FI, the only difference with the motors from the Non-M to the M version is going to be slightly more boost, which we can all get via the aftermarket scene, for cheaper and with more of a power yield. I'd want aftermarket suspension and brakes anyways, even on the M version.

So basically, it's going to come down to modding a non M version will give you more bang for your buck...

Its too bad they didnt do something badass like swapping in the e90/92 m3 motor in there. That would have been something worth getting. I'm not saying its not going to be decent, but it would at least make it worth the hype.

Tough to disagree with that... and while we are dreaming they might as well stick the stroked V10 in it.
