Where do you place your camera for races? I just ordered my Go Pro and need some advice.

So I just ordered the Go Pro Motorsports Edition off Amazon and should be getting it tomorrow.

I will be going out to the track for some drag racing this weekend and was wondering where the best location is to mount it. I like driving in the right lane so I will probably aim for that lane each run.

Where do you guys mount your camera if you don't have a passenger recording for you?

Inside the car hanging upside down high on the windshield facing forward, within reach to turn on and off.

Outside on the rear qtr windows facing either way, or center of rear window or on the trunk lid next to the plate - facing backwards.

Wind noise is only bad when on the side windows, using the skeleton backplate

Either start recording before hoping in to drive, or get this : http://gopro.com/hd-hero-accessories...-remote-combo/

A really good angle is the one next to the driver's headrest. Something like this but obviously pointing in the right direction.

I don't know about that mounting bracket, though.

Is there any kind of shileding for the cameras if you mount them on the side to eliminate the wind noise?

There is a Fall update which will allow live streaming? That would be awesome.

Otherwise thanks for the tips. I'm hoping I will only need the camera facing backwards to show I am beating everyone, but I know that will not always be the case. My goal is to keep the whole race recorded to show the distance in front or behind the opponent.

I'll probably just get a second camera and the remote and record both.

best bet with one is to ensure its set for widescreen. the gopro2 is a lot better at that than the original. eventually, you will want a 2nd. Ill be getting a 2nd gopro2 just for this, and now, thanks to the link, remotes as well

My original impression was that the wifi bacpac was bluetooth capable but it looks like they're just gonna use wifi for everything.

Not that I know of, other than using the sealed casing. Can't really hear much of anything then though.

+1 with LM on running multiple cams, easiest way to do it. lol you could cover your car in cams and control it all with one remote!

with the app coming out this fall, you can start/stop the recording on all the cams at the same time and stream the vid to your phone.

That's a good option too, you could also point the mount inwards to position the cam between the seats.

Here's a DIY on how to make a mount : http://www.mazdaspeedforums.org/foru...gopro2-100933/ Click here to enlarge
Instead of using the sticky mount, you could get the tripod mount from gopro and bolt it on with a 1/4"-20 bolt http://gopro.com/camera-mounts/tripod-mount/#specs

I like the one where you're at the track and get the two different angles. I'll have to look at that approach. Did you have both in the same mounting unit or separate facing forward and back?

2 separate cameras, overlapping view, one forward, one rear. Catching both angles is great, but I think I'm going to try and go low on the next one, like headlight height

Let me know how that one works out. I think it could look pretty sick. With only one camera for now I was thinking the 170 degree angle with 720P or 1080P if I bring my laptop to unload the video off the car. I might try the moonroof first and then the quarter panel just above the front passenger side wheel.

1080P is nice but gobbles up storage. 480/720 is really decent unless you absolutely want the highest resolution captured.
