    CANbus torque values?

Came across a shop who makes awesome gauges for our cars:

    http://www.awron-shop.de/bmw-display...-benzin?c=1162

These gauges also display torque (NM) and power (BHP) graphs. So I contacted them how these values are obtained and they told me the torque value is picked up on the CANbus. Hp is then calculated from torque.

Question: what torque value is available on the CANbus? I guess this will not be accurate on tuned cars?

The DME and transmission controller (if applicable) will base "torque" output based on an acceleration table. Older cars with automatic transmissions had to have the table recalculated if you installed big power adders such as a supercharger, since it would exceed the allowed acceleration parameters and set codes.

I don't think it would be very accurate or useful data for comparing cars, merely another tool to compare ones own modifications to see whether they help, hurt, or have no measurable acceleration change. Sounds like it works by seeing delta V / delta T, no accelerometers, etc that I can think of in the OE hardware other than DSC yaw/transverse acceleration sensors or vertical acceleration sensors over each axle for EDC if so equipped.

Well, you have to compare it to the other options around, which would offer similiar functionality:

    BMW Performance wheel: >1000 EUR
    Rixster V2 Gauge: +/- 500 EUR
LeatherZ or Stack pod with 3 gauges: +/- 700 EUR (depends which sensors need to be installed).

Installation gets expensive with all these kits.

If I hadn't already the LeatherZ gauge pod in my car, I'd get this one in a heartbeat.
