Photos of First Set of Upgraded X5 X6 M S63/N63 V8 Turbos/Compressor Wheels by ALSA

ALSA Automotive Engineering sent BimmerBoost details on their turbo upgrade hardware. Stage I consists of modifying the stock turbo's compressor wheels to allow for up to 1.8 bar of boost.

Here you can see the pictures of the hardware and the difference between the stock X6 M compressor wheel with the modified wheels. ALSA believes they are the first to have the completed hardware even though Nowack claims to have upgraded turbos. Nowack has not posted any photos of their hardware or any dyno graphs. The same goes for RDsport so it clearly seems ALSA is the first to have upgraded turbos available for the twin turbo BMW V8's.

ALSA is currently installing these at their facility for $18,840. Certainly later on we can expect these to be available world wide. ALSA will be sending BimmerBoost the dyno graphs shortly to substantiate their power claims as well as drivetrain loss claims. Here is the full press release:

This modification consists of modifying the stock turbo’s compressor wheels allowing boost pressure to increase to 1.8 bar, installing high flow catalytic converters or straight pipes and modifying the ECU.

ALSA Automotive Engineering has been able to boost the cars power from 555 hp up to 700+hp. During initial testing, ALSA found out that the car has a tremendous amount of drive train loss, which they calculated to be more than 30%. Power has increased from stock 555 hp to 724 hp. ALSA arrive at this number by adding the 30% drive train loss to the 557 whp and torque is increased to 945 Nm (697 ft. lb.). That is an increase of 169 horsepower to the wheels and next is stage II with modified headers! Looking at the pictures provided, the upgraded compressor wheels are on the inducer and exducer, each side around 2mm larger in diameter then stock wheels, along with a completely different blade design. In the picture from the side, you can see how different the blade angles are. All our improvements on the upgraded turbochargers will develop around 35% more airflow than the originals and are good for up to 2 bar of boost.

Performance wise, the car has become a rocket, launching from 0-100 km/h in around 3.8 seconds, 0-200 in 14.6 seconds and achieving a top speed in excess of 325 km/h rivaling sports cars such as Lamborghini’s and Ferrari’s. Pricing starts at 68,000 Dhs or 18,840 dollars installed at ALSA’s facility for stage 1. Is that really all there is to this? If yes, that's a really stupid price

Hold on man, that includes exhaust, tuning, installation, etc.

They are going to send me the price just for the turbo swap.

We don't know the design and capabilities of the stock parts, it could be that they are more than adequate.

The stock compressor wheel design looks more modern than their billet wheel. Yea, the billet wheel is pretty but alot of manufacturers are moving towards more blades and cutting out those small blades in between the larger ones. The Garrett GTX series uses an 11 blade instead of the traditional 6 blade. Their upgraded wheel looks like an old Garrett just...billet.

We are not, and have not yet looked in to it. I feel that there isn't a big enough market for it yet and the prices would have to be high. I'm also not a fan of hacking up turbo housings and just trying to cram bigger pieces in there. I would prefer to just ditch the stocker and put real turbos in. Again, too expensive and R&D heavy for us right now.

Exactly, it's cost benefit. It will make much more sense in a couple years.

@Hatake what are you saying exactly? What manifold and what turbos are those?
