I don't get how you are all so much faster than me. This is blazing for me, used to struggle with 728k DSL for years.

No, this is my home connection.
At work we are limited by the network socket speed limit, for the work connection itself is 2.5Gb if I remember correctly, + 0.5Gb for the Hotspot service...

I used to have ADSL, then a few years back I switched to UPC Cable for Internet, phone and HDTV.
Last year they dug fibre to the home cables through our town so I switched to fibre. Best thing ever. Quick as hell and with HDTV no more drop-outs at all. And record HDTV and watch anorher channel or playback a recorded HDTV program. An abundance of channels, and interactive TV.
And the internetspeed, well, is kind of ridiculous. And I only have the middle subscription. They offer 50/50, 100/100 or 500/500 Mbit.
If I would take 500/500 I'd have to buy a new internetrouter, for my WiFi router is 100Mbit as well...Switch behind it is 1Gb though.
Absolutely no need for 500/500 though.

Newsflash, SoCal is not the best place to live for infrastructure.
You live in a country where half the governements you have gets elected by promissing tax cuts.
So there is no money to build, maintain or upgrade infrastructure. Just for wars.
That's why every time there is a storm, a big cold front or a ground shake you lose electricity, you have to drive by putholes, have very old bridges, $#@!ty public transport and mediocre internet infrastructure.
If all these facilities have to be payed for by companies, they eather don't get done or will be very expensive.
That's republican thinking for you right there.

I live in a very nice area where we have awesome roads, no old bridges, did not lose electricity during any last earthquake, and have the most well funded police/school system in the county. I don't think you are familiar with it at all and would venture to guess there is far more money flowing into the local government than just about anywhere else.

I think the problem isn't SoCal it's that I'm in a secluded area off a long private road away from where the public utilities are funded and have access. Privacy/security has its pluses and negatives. As you may have noticed, plenty of people in California have very fast fiber. I just don't because of my unique situation.

And SoCal probably is the best place to live on the planet.

How do you guys post test results? Download speed is 35 Mb/s and upload speed is 17 Mb/s. I'm in a hotel in Monte Carlo which asks some serious money btw so the speed should be good as it is.

I can name 10 places without even thinking that is better place to live than SoCal. You got to travel more to see it yourself. World is full of surprises. I think @ecampbell has a lot to say about this since he's been to anywhere around the world.

That's a good suggestion. Some day i will visit LA and i'll come by to see what's up.

The cities i recommend you to check are Vienna, Geneva, Stockholm and Amsterdam. For a person like me, they are more suitable places to live than SoCal. And of course the Riviera coast line and any city close to that is a great place to live. In Asia only it's just Hong Kong which is highly expensive but there is a lot of ways to make huge money there. Paris is nice too, but i'm sick of it. Don't go to Italy and England, something about them really ****.

Let's see, I've been to every city you mentioned. Amsterdam is cool and all but doesn't hold a candle. The others are nice and clean but they don't compare either.

You are naming cities, I'm naming a huge area. Nothing compares. You can spend the day chilling on a yacht in Newport beach enjoying the sunshine year round and be in Vegas for dinner.

Fair enough. Definitely we have different tastes. I want a nice peaceful city to live.

Hand down Riviera is a better area to live. I'm in Monte Carlo at the moment for meeting someone and i just realized 28 years of my life has gone wasted. This is the life everyone should have.

Screw you guys. I just came from a cruise where there was satellite internet that was as slow as 56k yet you had to pay .79/min.

    Ridiculously priced for slow internet.

yah, you have the highest downloadspeed. But I only tried 2 times, and those were my outcome. I just can't be bothered to try this for a glory number. And your uploadspeed is crap.
Not at all sure why you bring up a tune when we are comparing internet speeds.
Unless you are rattling cages on every thread you post in. Better not do that.
    Have fun.

Thue, but at those speeds all you would ever want to do is read email, and then only IMAP mail.
Funny how in 2 years everybody wants to have internet all the time, even on vacation.
Just 2 years ago I couldn't be bothered with it on vacation, now I feel I really miss it when away.
Fortunately almost every hotel offers WiFi now, even on the most remote locations.

Actually almost all hotels offer WiFi nowadays. There is just too much demand for it for them not to offer it.
I was on the small island of Palau, Micronesia last year, right in the middle of the Pacific. The hotel we stayed at there had WiFi internet.
This year, in North Sulawesi, Indonesia, right in the bush. Excelent WiFi connection, and decent speed internet as well (in the lobby, speed in the room was tearpulling, but we were almost out of reach of the router).

    and during travel, hotspots everywhere.
Almost every restaurant has one, to draw customers. And it works.

I didn't mean Wifi in general I meant Wifi for free. As in, no extra charge.

Every hotel I have stayed in has had wifi in the past few years. Can't think of one that didn't. The RIO in Vegas had the $#@!tiest Wifi of anyone though and it cost 20 bucks a day.
