    Chris Harris - GT500 vs ZL1

If you want the summary - he states the Zl1 is better around town, easier to drive around town and that the mustang is more raw and gives you the pony car feel

On the track he finds the ZL1 very composed, smooth and refined but he isn't in to it that much. States the GT500 is a beast, more raw, the live rear axle is ok as long as there are no bumps but when there are bumps the car gets tossed around. States straight line the GT500 feels much much faster and finds it to be more fun. He says he would take the GT500 BUT out of his best lap times in each the ZL1 was 2 SECONDS faster around the track.

Chris Harris does the best car reviews IMO and he has a good sense of humor and isn't a nerd.

Id have to drive them both to say for sure but Id take the GT500 as well. it just seems to have a lot of character, the zl1 seems like a better car but I like character, fun and thrills

Thats what I was thinking, hence sticking with the M and not going GT500 or Z06, they are 10x more prevelent around here than the M

2 seconds better lap time with more weight, and less hp. The suspension and brakes must be doing some serious work.

Honest and somewhat unbiased... The GT500 is the Drag Strip King which is what the Mustang faithful want most, the ZL1 is the Road Course King which is what Chevy wanted. A throw back to the Trans Am Racing days. For playing on the streets late night straightline pulls I buy the GT500 to terrorize backroads and road course you buy the ZL1.

I love how everyone brings up the fact that the camaro beats the gt500 around a road course, cause we all drive on road courses and have enough skill to max out the potential of either car lol. Please, the people buying these cars, will either drag races/street race or put around town slowly enough thtat their wig doesnt fall off. MAYBE 1 percent of those cars will see an actual road course.

I honestly think laloosh is right, chevy didnt want a throwback to the transam days, they are just playing it off because they got their ass handed to them by ford this time. They have only one thing to cling on to, all the chevy boys are so butthurt that the mustang beat it that they are gonna cry lap times. LOL since when did they ever cry lap times before?

AMEN, it is so sad vistting camaro forums and seeing nothing but road course lap times. After all, they are all top of the line drivers. What half the idiots fail to realize is that tire for tire, the difference btwn times will be nothing. Get a set of coilovers on the ford and it might just be better. One of the shops just went 10.9 @ 130 on a drag radial gt500 with tune/xpipe/intake....LOL. They actually lined up against a zl1 with some basic mods and it went 12.x at 116 LMAO, close race.

They later sprayed the gt 500 with a 200 shot I think, and went low 10s with horrible traction at over 140.

I'm not defending either car but you have to remember that the Mustang is the only and top of the line performance car from Ford. Chevy on the other hand has the Corvette as their top performer. So its no suprise they didn't come out with a 700hp Camaro and kill their vette sales. With that said if I had to choose either the zl1 or the gt500 I'd take the Mustang based on looks and perfromance anyday.

on looks I think the mustang is way meaner and aggressive. The red one in the video with black stripes is just bad ass. IMO its way better looking than the camaro

I agree with the above, because Chevy could of just put the ZR1 spec engine in the camaro if they wanted but I think they were holding the cat back due to the ctsv and corvette. If they dd that it really would smash the GT500, sadly enough it does it with almost 100 less hp and not weight.

black with red stripes would be beastly..camaro's are ugly. they have a decent looking front end, looks like it means business, but it is a HUGE car

I'm a diehard Mustang nut I would take the GT500 for how I play and drive... But for a road course the ZL1 is surprisingly good

Chevy was trying to create an answer to the GT500 that was as fast in a straigtliine and faster around a road course. They came close using the 1st non aluminum block GT500 as a gauge. They never intended to build a drag strip king from the looks of it, its a stellar car that's grossly overshadowed by an incredible car

I'm curious to see a comparison of the boss vs gt500 on the track. As the boss lost to the zl1 by 2 seconds on a different track.

The GT500 does have electronic bilsteins (similar to those on the GTR) but i'd still have the dampening edge to GM's amazing Magnawhatever suspension. Tis awesome.
