Thumbs up Rico's POTENT HPF STAGE 2 6766 UPGRADE w/OPEN DUMP and MORE...

Rico's is Upgrading his HPF Stage 2 M3 and we're turning his car into a more potent street monster with 6766 POWER and an OPEN wastegate dump tube. He's also getting in on the HPF Oil Cooler Group Buy and the upgraded HPF Intake Tank Fuel Pump. His dyno graphs were a bit low but the compression and leakdown came in solid so the new numbers will be impressive. His car hadn't been driven in a long time so the fuel in his tank may have deteriorated a bit. We will have new numbers very shortly. We're getting quite a bit more power with the 6766 on all Stage 1, 2 and 2.5 M3's and the Open Dump option adds another 10-15rwhp as well. We will post up his results shortly.

In addition to just adding more power with the 6766, Rico had us also do a bunch of miscellanous work to his car to get it back to flawless condition. We fixed a problem with his brakes, ball joint, added lots of missing fasteners, fender liners, windshield washer resevoir wiring, and we also did a leakdown and compression test to make sure the motor was perfect (which it was). We have a little more work to do on it and it will be on the dyno shortly.
We give our customers the opportunity to have things fixed once the cars arrive. Our techs know every single bolt, nut and fastener on the car and most customers choose to have everything put back to OEM before their car leaves our shop. Click here to enlarge

Mario,

Sorry about your wait in the phone queue. I've been keeping an eye on that and during normal business hours we typically get to people right away. I would just call at 503-256-5600 between 8am and 5pm PST. We can chat with you about the meth nozzle cracking and get you a new one.

WOW, I for got to update this Thread......

Let's see where should I start?

I Took the fresh M3 on the new 6766 Turbo to MSR-H on 25th Aug..... in my 3rd session 3rd lap my front Brakes cooked. i came in too Hot and ended up in the gravel. the little concrete curb destroyed my Front Bumper, dented my new HPF Oil filter, bent the bracket, Crushed my Hot side pipe and cracked the OEM Radiator :-(

so, since then i had to get new stuff.....

- Stoptech st40s 355mm up front
* custom powder coat these in RED
- New Aluminum Mushimoto Radiator
- Custom 1M Front Bumper
- New Hotside pipe from HPF
- New HPF coupler
- New Drivers side & Passenger side weather strip
- Install snow performance Low-Meth Light
- Install rebuilt Tein SS-P Coilovers
- New Custom corner-Trunk mounted Subwoofer enclosure
- New Sub (Down grade from JBL W12GTi mki to a JL 10W7)
- New Amp ( Down grade from 2 JL A-series(1800/6450) to the AUDISON LrX 5.1K)
- Add a DSP ( Audison Bit.One)
- Swap Rear stage ( From Alpine spx-17pro to Focal K2 Power) to match my front stage
* wrap the new enclosure in Silver CF....
- Re-enforce Rear deck and wrap it & A.B.C Pillars in Alcantra
- Maybe..... RePaint whole Car....

HPF used to use the Okada coils which would "break up" at high RPM making TQ readings nigh impossible to graph. I am fairly certain (not 100% positive) that the current TQ reading comes from using the OEM coils and Denso RACING spark plugs...the current RECOMMENDED set up for all HPF stages. Someone please correct me if I am wrong. Chris did say that because of the hurricane (Typhoon) that went through Japan, that the special Denso plugs were hard for HPF to obtain. Hopefully that has changed or is about to change for the better. I dont know if this set up is STILL the HPF #1 recommendation. Maybe some one can corroborate??

wassup Dave, I do not think that's fact. my HPF M3 Runs on OKADA plasma coils the last 3 years. so my graphs shown above in this thread are on OKADA PLASMA COILS

Why are the OEM coils recommended over Okada?

Price mainly. No real huge advantage to the Okadas apparently over the OEMs...I've put 15k on these coils with no problems Click here to enlarge

On April 19, 2012 Chris from HPF posted this:
"After running the Okadas for 3-4 years, we've switched to the OEM coils on all stages of our turbo kits. Both of the HPF drag and track M3s are running OEM coils. The Okadas were one of the main reasons our dyno graphs looked a little rough at smoothing=0. The spark energy from the Okada coils wasn't enough for the dyno to read and certainly not enough for these cars at higher power levels. But the OEM coils work just fine at power levels above 1,000rwhp."

HPF NO LONGER RECOMMENDS OKADA COILS for their cars.
HPF also recommends a VERY expensive Denso RACING spark plug to go with the OEM coils. Evidently the non racing version has porcelain cracking issues on really high boost cars.

Chris's post is #38 in this thread. The thread is six pages long of alternatives to Okada coils. There are many. If you have a set of Okadas and are happy with their performance then keep them. HPF did not issue any sort of recall. They found a better way for the reasons he specifically STATES in his post. By the time you end up buying those racing plugs it is not a ton cheaper. List price is really high, and bargains are not easy to find.

Apparently it is extremely important in really high boost cars to keep your coils as COOL as possible. Unfortunately the fix is VERY expensive. The custom coil cover that HPF sells is an efficient RAM AIR design at a whopping price. You can always try and mod your own cover. I just wrangled the very BEST price I could with them and got something we know will work. I talked with HPF and they did do testing with probes and the temperature drop is radically fantastic. I forget the exact figure, but if you look closely at the design, a LOT of thought went in to it. It beats constantly searching for dropped coils. 30psi and up puts a pretty big strain on the coils.

http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=916447&highlight=hpf+denso+racing +plugs&page=2

The great thing is getting TORQUE figures back finally. You almost NEVER saw torque values on the other axis of HPF Dyno runs. This was lack of data was ONLY becasue of the Okada coils low spark energy at high boost levels!
