    ESS VT 625 vs Corvette Z06

    I was partisipating in a event a couple of weeks ago, the Corvette was fast, surprised me a little..

    Good run, sounded like he went to 6th which made no sense based on how the rpms fell off. Strong run for the M considering the Z has only an exhaust

    ESS Tuning VT2-625 supercharged 6 speed E92 M3 races a C6 Z06 with headers and exhaust

    Here is a race between a mildly modified C6 Z06 running an Akrapovic exhaust and LG Super Pro longtube headers. The M3 has the ESS-VT2 625 supercharger kit and it is a 6-speed manual car. The Z06 does a pretty good job hanging in there considering the power disparity and that the M3 got a slight jump. We would love to see a few more runs but it is impressive to see a 6 speed M3 do well against a modified Z06 as it has pretty much only been supercharged DCT M3's getting the wins against Z06's.

    The Z06 was actually pulling at some points (top of its gears), which is impressive considering it is basically stock.

    True, but the gearing killed it once it looked like it got into 6th?

    Vettes have an extraordinarily long overdrive gear (well, all their gears are really tall) which is crucial for their very good gas mileage. I'm always shocked at how fast Z06s are stock or with very basic mods, that is a seriously quick M3 and it barely got away at all!

    DCT trans would have made a noticeable difference. Of all the e9x m3's i've raced, the dct cars are closer than the 6spds.

    The 5th gear is killing the Z06's performance.
    That's one of the most stupid gear ratio I've ever seen, I don't really understand how the Corvette engineers was thinking there...?

    I've seen this many times; The Z06 is fast as hell in the beginning and when it's time for the 5th gear - the race dies.
    I really thought it was the 6th gear that was meant to be the overdrive, but obviously not in Z06's case...

    When I race in the Z06 I always stop at the end 5th (car is brual from 1-4 and after that it falls off), no point whatsoever into going into 6th the car simply stops - same case with EVO's. Its just for better gas mileage on the highway.

    M3 did really well, headers+exhaust open the ls7 right up and add huge gains.

    Easily over 180mph. That's what i achieved in a stock Z06 in 5th and it still had close to 700 rpm more to reach the redline. But the car is as stable as a leaf at those speeds. Am i not right @ItalianStallion? Click here to enlarge

    5th is overdrive as well. Redline in 4th is about 160 so 5th is capable of over 200 on paper.
