I bet you could use a similar setup to this to dial the fuel in. Is the 350d the same engine with bigger bottom end? I bet the UK tuners could write the 350d maps into the 335d DECM.

    Much respect eddie.

Following this with interest. I too have a modified 996 and was disappointed with the lack of tuning options available for the 335d. I'm very much interested in this as well as a downpipe to eliminate DPF and Urea injection. Ecotune said they would make us a downpipe but we would have to ship a stock unit. I would certainly split the cost if you find someone local who can do a downpipe or better yet turbo-back setup.

Also would like to do EGR delete which includes EGR valve and EGR cooler (common in diesel truck world). Let me know if you were interested, thinking of buying a spare EGR cooler and valve to have block-offs fabricated.

I'll put both of those on my list of things to look into. Exhaust is a must for me.

Bmw has 550d which is the same 3-liter diesel base engine but comes with three turbos. They don't offer the version of the engine for 3-series so we'd need to copy the 5-series engine management and the third turbo, of course.

oh, i don't know if it's worth the trouble vs. just having the compressor wheels upgraded with higher flowing billet units. They will make more power and may even spool faster.

So i got the op-amp chip today and installed it for the two temp sensors for now. The TPS pin was to hard to get to so i'll see how it does like this.

I used the dead bug methode.....

So tuning seems to be going well. I needed something to compare to so i could confirm my theory of how the DECM would react to modified sensor signals.

For the first tune i tried to copy this DTUK tune that was posted on the internet. I was able to get the exact same results and i can feel the car pulling harder. I copied the last map at the bottom.

also, i think these cars learn the tunes and get better as you drive them... so if you get codes with your JBD, turn it to 65% for a few days and turn it up to 75% for a few more days and so on. It may prevent you tripping a code at 100%. it's probably not good to jump from 65% to 100% in one shot. I can see the car adapting in my logs and it start to run better over time.

For some thinking of doing this, you don't really have to hook up the coolant temp, TPS and Egt. This would reduce the wiring and not require installing the op-amp. I hooked everything up everything so I could monitor them. I do suggest EGT monitoring though.

I bumped the fuel a little bit more and the car now pulls much better on the top end. It pulls more like a gas car now.

Notice any change in cruise economy since your initial tune? Great work btw! Now if we can get that turbo-back exhaust and code out errors I'll be set with the car... for now.

I'm interested to see where this goes. Since I have the DTUK tune, anything that might take it a step above peaks my interest. I'm also working on the meth kit with Terry (hopefully....need to do some work on the car), so things are really starting to come together for our cars.

Nice work TurboEddie, impressive. When do you expect to have this module fine tuned to where you are ready to perhaps put this on a dyno?

I've been able to play with the car a little here and there. Power is not hard to get out of it. I've been concentrating on making the smoothest transition into power. If you crank the fuel up to much in lower RPM the car may start to surge up and down. I've got it running real smooth now and pulls like my 996 turbo on the highway. Before i go any further the DPF is comming off. I can notice that the DPF fills up much faster when giving the engne more fuel and it's causing the engine to regen more and uses up more fuel.

Would love to see some performance numbers out of your car.

What's your plan for addressing the program that controls the regen? This is just getting more and more interesting! Great work!

Can't wait, and I agree on the DPF. You might google the company, ecotune. They are in the UK and can completely program out the DPF system and urea injection as well as any cat efficiency codes. Maybe you can indirectly glean how they accomplish this as an 'interested consumer'
