Huge Surprise - Sport Auto picks M3 over RS5 in direct comparison

Just a joke, not a shocker at all, the RS5 never had a chance thanks to the heavy AWD plus same old motor.

Umm, so Audi gets a second chance to top the M3 and still comes up short? And this thing is more expensive? And it weighs more? And it consumes more fuel? And handles worse? And it gets outlapped? And it accelerates slower? And it is had the same old 4.2 liter motor slightly tweaked? And it is poorly balanced? And it has a higher hp rating that doesn't translate into the real world? And it comes up short after more development time after the M3 already was on the market?

Footie could not be reached for comment as apparently he is still crying that his favorite magazine could not produce results in his favor around his favorite track.

This test was biased. The RS5 is obviously the superior car as you can tell by the 0-100 time which is better. I think the driver struggled with using the quattro traction properly around the track. It can not be driven like a BMW to maximize potential.

It is a much more exclusive car with a much better interior and with the more useable performance 0-100 a much better choice.

I hope BMW comes out with a funny commercial to respond to Auid's lil "2nd best commercial" that they did for BMW, But based on the M3 v RS5 it will be something to laugh at for sure.

Audi keeps trying to pick a fight with BMW through ads as they still can't get over how badly they were owned by BMW.

All they had to do was add a couple turbos and it would be a worthy opponent.

I'll be interested to see more comparisons. I dont listen to just 1 magazine review...I've seen retarded lap times put out by mags....thinks it's better to see a few...I don't doubt the m3 is a faster car...just curious to see more comparisons and rs5 reviews.

ASFAIK the motor in the RS5 is completely new with hardly any shared components. I think Audi dropped the ball significantly by not going forced induction on this one especially knowing the next M3 is going to be forced induction. They will thus always be a step behind.

Yes, it is a "new" version of the same old 4.2 liter.

They needed forced induction to compete as they just don't do NA as well especially with quattro sucking power and their very heavy cars. I don't know why Audi went away from forced induction in the first place.

i loved the RS4 engine...the quattro and the weight definitely slowed the car...but the engine revved freely, felt like it had a light weight flywheel compared to the M3..although definitely slower

A nice motor, but the RS5 just has a slightly tweaked version. Obviously a twin turbo V8 or even an NA V10 would have been better. Audi can't compete with BMW's motor naturally aspirated when using a 4.2 liter V8 with quattro and a heavy car.

I wish Audi would do something small and tough with a retro look, something similar to the original Quattro. The TTRS is the only Audi I would buy today, but it is too rare and expensive. Their I5 is an awesome engine and all they need is a car with less extra BS than the TT, just something simple without magnetic suspension, heated power seats, "Sport" buttons, and other things unnecessary for sport driving.

Would a "simple", stripped down, cheaper car that can actually be purchased in the USA for a reasonable price be too hard for them?
