    700+ HP M54 Head Gasket

    Gents,

I've been talking to a vendor about sourcing "cutring" head gaskets for the M54.

They are proven to work on other BMW engines making over 700hp, with bore sizing up to 87mm. The M54 is 84mm bore, so we have a bit more meat to work with, but it's an aluminum block so a head stud solution will also need to be looked at. (Time-sert the block)

Just to put this in perspective cost wise, OEM gaskets are under $100, Cometic MLS gaskets are in the $220 area, these will be in the $500+ area.

This is an ultra-high performance part that doesn't exist yet, but I would like it to.

Please reply in this thread if you are interested, or have questions, and I'll try to address them.

Edit: Sticky, I'm not selling anything, just trying to gauge interest. A vendor will handle the transaction.

Will this require machining of the block? I've seen some that do, some that don't.

That is the trick here: Cutring does not require machining.

I'll see about posting some pictures...

The stock head gasket is a mls type and pretty thin .030" if I remember correctly. I think the BIGGEST issue with the m54 is the aluminum threads in the block and the head bolts/ studs. I will bet anyone the cost of a oem gasket that on a m54 with 84mm bore, 11mm L19 head studs and 11mm time serts that an oem gasket would hold over 40psi of boost. But in all honesty at that level you'll run into other issue like main caps

Long term I would certainly be interested. Right now my needs aren't that high but hopefully in time I would need such a solution.
