EZ Flash Tuning by OE Tuning - S65 M3 - Pictures and Educational DIY

    Hello everyone,

I just wanted to share a brief DIY of the very soon to be released EZFlash tool for most modern performance cars by OE Tuning.

You can re-visit the information written by Sticky here:

OE Tuning has announced that finally we have a map switching option for many of the popular German performance vehicles on the market. Many of you know that the S65 for example had to be flash tuned and no tuner on the market had the ability to provide different maps to account for different setups on the fly. That is, no tuner had the ability until today. OE Tuning is the first tuner to have a map switching option for the factory DME E9X M3 among many other models.

So what can EZ flash do? It does not simply provide different maps. Here are the features provided by the product:

    - Tuning
    - Data Logging
    - Map Switching
    - DTC Reading
    - Code Clearing
    - USB connection
    - Remote download and upload of maps
    - No limitation on the number of tune changes as with traditional flash approaches.
    - Easy to use as the name implies
    - Competitive Price
    - The only product of its kind available for the S65

Ok, I get that this is a big deal for factory DME BMW M3's with the S65, what about other models?

Well, this is not just limited to the E9X M3 even though this product will be making huge waves in that respective market. The product already supports the following models:

    BMW:

    MSS60 - S85
    2008 - BMW M3 V8

    MSD80.X - N54
    2006 on BMW 335i

    MSD81.X - N54
    2008 on BMW 335i

    BMW models coming soon:

    MSD/MSV8X.X - N52+
    BMW X23i, X25i, X28i, X30i

    MSS65 - S85
    2006 - BMW M5, M6 V10

    MSD85 - N63
    BMW X6M, X50i

The following Mercedes Models are supported:

    ME2.7
    2004 - 2006 MB CL/S 600
    2004 - 2006 MB CL/S 65 AMG

    ME2.8
    2002 MB C/CLK/E/ML/SLK 240
    2002 MB C/CLK/E/ML/SLK 320
    2002 - 2004 MB C/SLK 32 AMG
    2002 MB CL/CLK/CLS/E/ML/S/SL 430
    2002 MB CL/CLK/CLS/E/ML/S/SL 500
    2004 - MB C 55 NA AMG
    2003 - MB CL/CLS/E/S/SL 55 Kompressor AMG
    2005 - MB CLK/SLK 55 NA

    ME9.7
    2006 - MB C/CLK/CL/CLS/E/ML/S/SL 63 AMG

    Mercedes Models Coming Soon:

    ME2.7.2
    2006 - MB CL/S/SL 600
    2006 - MB CL/S/SL 65 AMG

Below are pictures and details of my EZFlash process:

When ordering an EZ Flash module you will receive this contents in your package:

    (1) EZ Flash ODB2 programmer
    (2) small mini type USB

First thing you want to do is have your computer (Windows XP and up) recognize the drivers and accept the EZflash module via the USB port. At this point you can use it like a thumb drive but it will be empty (for now)

Then you will want to marry it to your car, where the EZFlash will read your factory file and place it in the memory

Next you will want to find the USB port in the picture below:

By pulling on the tab on the OBD cover you will be able to remove it so the port is accessible in the picture below:

Then have your directions ready via PDF file and follow the instructions which I will summarize below:

Then with the key off you will want to place your EZFlash into the OBD port and make sure the toggle switch is in the factory position closest to the "line." This will read the factory file. Then you can proceed to put the key in the slot position (accessory mode - do not start vehicle) and the EZFlash will go to work automatically. It will blink red while it is working. After a minute or so the lights will signify that they are done when they blink between red and blue. When completed, you can remove the EZFlash and take out the key.

From here you will notice the VIN is married to the EZFlash 3355) and it has pulled two files out of your car, a history report and the factory file ready to be tuned. These files will need to both be attached and emailed to uploads@oetuning.com. You will then receive a tuned file back via email and you can place it into your EZFlash by dragging and dropping into the folder while it is connected to your computer.

With the files that are read the tuner can now see your software version, when the last time you were flashed, if you have competitor software or not, whether you are tuner protected DME or not, and other DTC and fault memory in your vehicle hindering max performance in your tune. This snapshot allows flexibility in getting the most from your vehicle to troubleshoot issues and seek advice from OE Tuning.

Here is a screenshot of SOME of what your tuner will see (depending on cars history will have alot more then shown below):

So, from here you can work in reverse, however you will switch the toggle switch AWAY from the line to revert to your "tuned" map and the car will now write, instead of read the factory file. So you would plug the EZFlash into the ODB port and put the key in the ignition and the light will go read during it's progress. From there when it turns green, it is all done and programmed. And you can now enjoy your vehicle. With both the factory file on your program and the tuned you, within 30-45 seconds you can switch the procedure between stock/tuned, or pump gas/race gas or however you want the car setup.

PLEASE READ THE OE TUNING PDF for step by step detailed instructions this is only meant as a demonstration.

    Thanks,

    B

Thats cool, but I thought it was alittle more then this.

Ive pretty much had the same thing we used for my car for awhile now. Ive uploaded and downloaded files from my ECU to my laptop with a obd2 plug.

We've all been using ODB2 dongles and various read/write software for years to load maps into S54 M3's. It's no black magic, it's a very inexpensive cable on ebay. I'm sure AA provided you with one and the software they use years ago like they do to all their dealers. However, there is alot bigger picture here.

Try purchasing a read and write cable program for the MSS6x or any of the 2008+ CANbus Merc/BMW DME's, it's a couple thousand dollars. This is far different then that dongle for the end user as there is dealer involved, NO laptop and the information it pulls out of the car is far different then any read and write software.

    Point taken.

You think this can be something like the GIAC loader they have for the Porches? That would be pretty cool as well.

Same idea. You can have race/valet/pump/kill/girlfriend mode or whatever and by dragging it onto the folder with the EZflash connected it is then ready to be flashed into the vehicle in less then 45 seconds.

That's different, you have a standalone.

I can't believe how compact and simple this whole thing is. I mean, this is so straightforward I can't even believe it. It really is just plug and play.

So once it is married that is it? You can't use it with another car? What if I have more than one car I want to tune?

They are married to the VIN - one car but unlimited flashes. Licensed accordingly. If you have more then one car you would need more then one EZFlash Click here to enlarge No different then any other product on the market like GIAC, Shark, etc.

    You can "un-marry" though, correct?

    The Accessport can.

There is no unmarrying process. Cobb is unique in that regard to anything on the market.

I still read/write files to the OEM ECU. I have another port for the AEM computer.

But it wouldn't work if you didn't have the standalone, correct? Maybe I'm not quite understanding.

I didn't see any reference to S65 model year (MY). I have a MY 2011 S65 DCT. It has the anit-tamper BMW software loaded. Will this device work with this car? Also, what about a car that is fully loaded with all of the technological gizmos? Will this leave any of my devices useless? ie, ZCP, ZTP, high beam assist, satellite, smart phone etc.....

    Hello,

The anti tamper software has been fixed in house via a few different methods, OE is now adding that logic to the EZFlash which takes a slightly different approach then a pre 2011. OE tuning has purchased a 2011 M3 just for this duty of tackling the anti-tamper. There will be an announcement when this is 100% good.

It only changes performance parameters so you will not have to worry about it effecting anything on the car. My car is fully loaded as well.

Good to hear. It sounds like you are where other tuners are at this stage. Is your 2011 M3 a DCT?
