I might hit the track today with DRs on if the air is good, so it would be beneficial to know...

Man, you have been the owner of that car for quite a long time. Read the manual.

In case you don't give a thing about manuals like me, Here is what to do to launch in SMG cars. Turn off the DSC. Put the transmission settings into the highest (S6 in DCT cars i think). Hold the lever forward for a few seconds. Then something should tell you that you are set ( a flag on screen i think in DCT cars ). Floor the Gas pedal and let go the lever when you want to launch and then bang your are gone.

    Hopefully it helps.

Just a quick note/addition to this. Although this is accurate for an SMG car - for DSG, follow the exact same procedure as above - but for DSG you DO NOT have to shift, with SMG, you do.

Also, (for DSG) you can modify the starting RPM (using the cruise control up/down to start at a different starting point - it changes it 100 RPM IIRC at a time) with DSG - but the factory settings seem to spin me enough to get me going.

I would imagine for a drag strip, however - you would definitely want to bump this up (stickier) - so maybe add some revs.

    Hope this helps.

Correct, buy you are talking about US specs SMG's. In my non-US M6 it would upshift automatically after launching, and also you could change the RPM by pushing/pulling the cruise control lever. Just like the DCT.

Why does BMW give you guys the cool technology and leave us with SMG that launches at 2k RPM? Click here to enlarge

I think so - but it looks like only if it's a US based car. Not sure if the SMG logic is different between the E46 M3 and the M6, but this is how it worked for my car (had to shift). I suppose you could just try it out - if it doesn't shift for you, next time you would be good to go manually.

Please throw an update when you are done, curious how it works out for you.

    Cheers.
