    Fuel pump cut off

    Hi guys,

    newbie here from the UK.

Basically an attempt to steal my car was made last week and only by sheer luck of someone in my house turning a light on, they got spooked and left it.

This has become common practice in the Uk and over 150 BMWs have been stolen in my area alone since January due to a security weakness allowing the car to started via the OBD port. I have planned a few things to prevent and delay and potiential criminals from doing it again. Interestingly my drivers window was smashed but the factory alarm did not go off at all.

Now I'm thinking of intercepting one of the positive feeds to either the LPFP of HPFP and fitting a switch to allow me to turn them off at night. A potential problem I can see is that I've heard the fuel pump is turned on when the doors are unlocked so it might trigger some fault codes.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the reply. Yes it does but my car means too much to me and is probably the only RB'd 335i in the UK. It's taken me ages to get it to where I want it and wouldn't want to start again. If you wondered how it easy it is to steal one then look here:

I've had a few customers ask about a feature like this on n54tech. It's easily doable. The easiest thing to do externally is a kill switch on the large orange wire going in to spot #8 on the green power connector in the DME. This powers up the coil packs. No spark, no go. Click here to enlarge

Terry that's excellent, really appreciate the help.

Ill do that as a precautionary measure but would love it if you could integrate something into the jb4 for us. I'd pay extra for it

Yes, I have been thinking about it. I am just worried about regular customers engaging by accident and stalling their cars out. You'd be surprised the sort of support items that come up. Often customers put the car in to Transport mode / TRA by accident in the menu and are baffled why their car will not rev over 4500rpm. Imagine if they made some setting change by accident and their car would not start!

I had a kill switch for the fuel pump on an old Saab Turbo, it was mounted under the rear seat so I could just reach it from the drivers seat.

It sounds like Terry's suggestion regarding power to the coils would work fine.

Maybe a JB4 kill switch could use the 2-step/NLS box to do this? Thus only letting some of the more "power users" having this feature. I guess it would keep support issues to a minimum.

I've put fuel pump kill switches in all my older cars, not on this car. I'd be worried about running the HPFP dry. Sounds like the coil packs is the way to go.

All done now as per Terry's instructions and it works perfectly. I've also relocated the OBD port since I never use it as I've got the JB4 USB cable in the glovebox anyway.

Nice suggestion by Terry, pretty easy to do without even cutting into the wire too.

Of course, prolly a different connector but you are just intercepting the coil power

Hahah! I recognize the Slavic accent right away. I am Bulgarian myself and I can pretty much distinguish between the different Slavic accents without a problem.

EDIT: The reason why I guessed Bulgarian first is because (contrary to what Top Gear said last season) Bulgarians are the top car thieves in Europe. Albanians come distant second. Click here to enlarge
