    JB4 IS specific firmware

They just released IS specific firmware for the JB4. It boosts PSI in the middle ranges over the current firmware & also changes the AFR to better support this version on the N54. Also good for the sport car & 1M.

The car feels like it has a lot more mid range push....no logs yet.

So can you use this map on a non-is N54?
    What makes this is specific?

Doesn't it seem like a bad idea to try to trick your piggyback?

If you want more boost log your pulls and see if you have "room for improvement" instead of potentially doing something stupid to your car...

Question: The N54 in the IS is the same engine as the non-IS, but with different software from BMW. The extra power from the factory is attributed to BMW running more boost. Why would the N54 in the IS be able to handle more midrange boost from the JB4 then the non-IS? I always thought the JB4 software for the IS was LESS aggressive than the non-IS (since it starts out with higher boost from the factory, the JB4 doesn't need to add as much). Why would the IS version of the JB4 provide more boost in the midrange than the standard JB4?

I think Terry mentioned somewhere that the "is" has a less aggressive timing curve thus it can take more boost.

Could is be that the standard engine mappings in an "is" version allready allows for more power then on a RWD N54?
And thus the offset on a is N54 was off and it impaired drivability?
    Not sure here, just speculating.

Two things, first the IS has a different factory timing profile then the stock N54 so boost limits can be set more aggressively on the JB4 IS running 93 octane.

Second, The 3/7 interface now has a drop down menu to choose N55, N54 & N54 IS. The user definied settings for All AFR are totally different then the stock N54

I am glad to see more people are starting to realize the difference between the N54 and the N54 IS. Good informative post though

Just noticed the question about using the IS version on a stock car. Quick answer is no. The timing & AFR do not match up. If you are interested in this you really need to review the JB4 info Sticky at N54tech.

    Final settings for my car running 95 octane & a FMIC on Map6. 1500/13psi 2000/14psi 2500-5000/15psi 5500/14.5 6000/14psi 6250/13.5psi (6250 is my shift point) if I run it out to redline its 6500/13psi 7000/11psi.

Car developed 365whp on a Dynojet with 94 octane & a stock FMIC on Map2 last fall. The new setup should pickup a few more WHP.

All I know is you can get more aggressive on the boost with a JB4 + 335is. The 335is runs a more conservative timing curve.

I know this may be a stretch, but if the software allows the IS N54 to handle certain features of the JB4 better, anyway to flash that software to non-IS cars - or is it something different altogether?

Since he have a lower timing curve than a "normal" n54 he is now prob running higher mid range boost than previous so he should be faster using the new fw.

Should explain the Map 6 thing. Terry put an IS default package together for Map 6 on the overall IS specific setting that has higher boost across the board especially from 2500 to 5000 if you are running quality 93 or better octane.
