    Borg Warner EFR turbo W.T.$#@!

I was on the Full-Race website today and came across this document on the EFR line of turbos, so I thought I would throw a link up. A lot of people probably know by now that the EFR turbos from Borg Warner are on backorder everywhere. Regarless, I think this would be a great turbo choice for those going single... if you can wait several months. I gave Full-Race a call today, and got an estimate of 4-8 months! Anyway, there are some other good turbo options out there as well. Post if you got 'em.

Full-Race said on the other forum they will have something to show in Nov. at Sema. Hopefully they will be in stock by then.

I read something about "quality control" issues causing the delay (on another forum, nothing official), so I guess that could be the issue. Reading through different posts, it looks like these have been on a very slow delivery schedule for quite a while.

Yep, they've been on back order for a long time.. I'm waiting for my EFR turbo kit from zzp. they estimate they should get their batch of EFR's sometime in april.. I can't wait till I get mine. I've been waiting a year!

Damn! That's a long time to wait. The funny thing is, I think some of the things I read actually were over on one of the Cobalt forums. I'm not familiar with ZZP, but I did see this name come up as one of the kits regaring the EFR turbo. It's too bad they are so hard to come by. After reading up, I feel like these turbos are ahead of the rest (or I'm just a sucker for their marketing propaganda LOL).

I haven't seen much back to back comparison. They tested it on an RB26 but like I said I believe the turbine came apart and took the housing also. I would like to try a set of twins.

I've seen them in person. They're awesome. Seem's to be pretty effective for the Sierra Sierra Evo.

    Cool little video:

No man, they really are the $#@!. They are much bigger than my stock turbo and they have tested it out and it spools the same if not quicker than the stock. I really can't wait for this bolt on mod, I need to hit 450 whp.

I haven't seen dyno evidence of them performing better than other high tech turbos. Have you?

Yes, this is an EFR based turbo. It has an unbelieveable list of features:

    Ball bearing
    Water cooled
    Billet wheel
    Extended tip
    Stainless exhaust housing
    Titanium/aluminide exhaust wheel
    Built-in recirc bypass
    Built-in wastegate

We took all of this and added:
    Bolt-on to LNF manifold
LNF exit for factory O2 housing
Re-designed wastegate actuator bracket for use in this application
Adapter fitting for factory LNF oil inlet hose

This setup uses our off-the shelf charge tubes, intercooler, downpipe, etc... It also has a stock airbox and our silicone intake coupler with a slight modification.

The best part about this setup is the simplicity. I got the turbo on the car and strapped it on the dyno. The first pull was 411whp, the 2nd pull was 473. The 3rd pull was 487, then 489. Then I had to make some adjustments to the wastegate actuator to get more boost and the next pull was 509whp. Looking at the dyno sheet, you can see 25psi at 3400 RPM, so lag is not an issue either. All in all, I'm pretty happy with this project so far. Click here to enlarge

They are this popular or is it due to that aforementioned wheel coming apart?

Good question. I only called about 3 places, but none of them were specific about why there was such a long delay. I kind of get the feeling that they aren't getting much info from B.W. since they can't even nail down a solid lead time. Does anybody here have an insider at B.W.?

They aren't coming apart anymore. It takes time to manufacture all those turbos! And most of the race teams buy them up before the average guy can order one. Not to mention Indy Car is running those turbos and likely took a big chunk.

The delay is due to the Indy cars. They just said we want turbo's, all of them NOW! I'm guessing B.W. wasn't expecting something like that to happen in the begging of their launch. Shows this can be the new generation of turbo technology.

Did not realize this was being used in Indy. That's pretty impressive and I can understand why they are first in line.
