We have built a number of 3.46 for the 6MT cars. Def a fun improvement.

Since you can not buy just a ring and pinion for these cars, you need to buy a complete final drive. Good condition, low mileage, big body, 3.46 cores are hard to come by. I try to keep 1 used ($900) and a few new ones ($1400) in stock for those who want the upgrade.

Honestly we haven't changed ratios on an XDrive car. I wouldn't want to try, seems risky.

We have fit quite a few XIs with Quaifes and they kick ass. Stock ratios of course. :-)

What is the opinion on going from the factory manual transmission gears to the shorter automatic gears? With RB turbos and an OS Giken will I actually be able to put the power down or should I stick with the 3.08?

It really depends on what your tire setup is, and if you have a jb4 or some method of limiting boost in 1st and 2nd.

Also here, my question would be what torque levels can be taken by 3rd party solutions? I already broke my differential once (unfotunately i do not know exactly what model there was installed... 3.08 ratio i know, but no idea if still bolted or now welded...) and 2nd one will be game over soon. So my thoughts are now to swap to LSD, but it should also be able to take the torque that JB4 + RB create (6 gear manual e90).

with sidekick to upcoming RB stage 3, the differential should be able to deal with that amount of torque...

    Certainly a good question.

I know Click here to enlarge To me, it is even more interesting than the locking-function itself, because i don't have big traction issues on my car. I can do donuts and circles with it without problems, and when i launch the car off, there are always 2 stripes on the tarmac (except when there are different sittuations on the left + right side).

So the bigger issue for me is to get a differential that can stand the torque. Used oem differentials can be bought for 300 bucks maybe, so blowing one of them is not killing me. blowing a 1.500 or 2.000 bucks LSD would suck big time...
