No more naturally aspirated M motors. If you wanted a high revving screamer, you'll need to buy a ferrari for 10x the price. Thanks BMW!

I got a 4.5 I6 from TVR which revs to 9000 for just $7000. I'm gonna put a M-Power logo on it and shoe horn it into a 2002.

@DBFIU from a junkyard in UK, someone who imports older British cars parts found it. It's a TVR Speed six 4.0 which was stroked to 4.5 by some TVR junkies called TVRpower. The engine though isn't in great condition, at the very least it should get rebuilt with some new parts. But it does worth the cost specially when you look at the graph below:

I know, TVR was doing this back when I had an E46 M3 in 2001.

I actually made a thread complaining that the M3 motor wasn't good enough, I was that upset Click here to enlarge

Huh, Where is that thread? worth reading.

Stock for Stock S54 is the better engine, revs higher and has makes less problems. The speed six in stock form is just a headache, the dry sump lubrication sometimes doesn't work and they are more well known problems. But the speed six has much more room to get improved.

Yeah, but it's not just BMW that lost the way; TVR is switching to GM LS's :-\

If thing go well, I'm gonna drop the engine into this:

It was a long, long time ago.

The S54 is a great engine, you are right.

The BMW Z4 GT3 up to 2011 has a P65B40. All the internals are stock besides the oilpump that is an drysump pump and the crankshaft that has no gear to drive the original oilpump.

After 2011 it got an P65B44 with other pistons and cams.

No, it's a S65. It looks and sounds like one, the P60B40 (what is a P65 anyways?) has a flat crank shaft which has the most obvious sound on earth.

Oh, it seems the engine in E92 M3 GT2 is called P65 which is a tweaked P60. But it has nothing to do with the highly modified S65 in Z4 GT3.

    M3 GT2 has an all out P65B40 (485hp)
    Z4 GT3 has an moderatly tweaked P65B40(480hp)/P65B44(515hp)
    M3 GT4 has an stock S65B44 (420hp)

The P65 is not an tweaked P60 its an tweaked S65 with integral drysump. It has nothing in common with the P60.

Look at these pages from the FIA homolagtion for the 2010 Z4 GT3

The mountingflange for the drysump is in the lower left of the front och the block

Not yet but I'm building an S65 with Darton sleeves, high compression pistons, ported heads, Shrick cams and running Motec M800 ECU. But its not completed before a couple of months.

It doesn't make sense. The much more modified S54 which was used in Z4 GT3 was called S54 not P54. They called P60, P60 because it was based on nothing, it was an all new engine so it needs a name. Calling a dry sumped S65 with new cams and heads, P65 is kind of odd.

Why they gave the Z4 more power than the M3 though it's in a higher class?

Nice, S65 should have come with dry sump in the first place.

Very sweet. Why a standalone BTW? Do you plan to swap it into something?
