Chris Harris' take on the BMW F10 M5 and Nissan GT-R

"Are they rivals, not really. Is the GT-R faster? Yes. Would you rather live with the M5 every day? Yes."

He enjoyed every bit of both cars. Check it out.

Does the F10 M5 really need to keep getting compared to the Nissan GT-R? Chris Harris does exactly that

Why do people keep comparing the M5 to the GT-R? It is idiotic. We said as much when Autocar did it a few weeks ago. First, Mr. Harris starts with bagging on the E60 M5. The SMG III gearbox was really that confusing for him? The miles per gallon were an issue? It's a 5.0 liter V10 that revs to over 8000 RPM. Gallardo owners are not complaining about their MPG and neither was anyone who could afford an M5. The new F10 M5 is not going to be a Prius with its 17/22 MPG. Frankly, the fuel economy hit of the E60 M5 is worth it when you consider it does not need fake engine noise piped into the cabin.

Ok, let's forget the ridiculous and undeserved shots at the previous generation M5, like faulting it for not having a dual clutch. The stretch to comparing the M5 to the GTR is absurd. Yes, we all get they both have twin turbo engines and a dual clutch gearbox. So what, on that basis is it logical to compare a Z06 to an E39 M5 because they are both manual and naturally aspirated V8's? These cars are aimed at different targets and we do not need to keep seeing M5 to GTR comparisons.

When wanting to learn about the M5 it is oh so much fun to see a reviewer fawn over the GTR. Especially the ever so relevant mention of how the GTR does on the UK's wet roads as if anyone with an M5 is somehow unaware the car is rear wheel drive or searching for a smaller all wheel drive car to cross shop with to make rear passengers more uncomfortable.

And using Google search volume as evidence for a natural comparison? Seriously? I looked at the top Google search trends for February 24. Kathy Ireland and Danica Patrick are in the top 10. Oh, well, this must mean it would be logical to have Danica and Kathy race each other in the Daytona 500. They are both women after all, that makes sense. Get out of here with this type of nonsense.

Chris Harris states the M5 can feel big and cumbersome compared to the GT-R. This is automotive journalism? A mid-size sedan feels bigger and not quite as maneuverable as a sports coupe? Thank you Chris. Maybe you can find out how the M5 feels next to a Miata next. They are both rear wheel drive after all, totally natural.

We do not want any more of these forced comparisons between the M5 and GTR. They are different cars. They serve a different purpose. Please stop doing it and compare the M5 to the CTS-V and the updated M157 twin turbo E63 for a proper and relevant comparison the world actually wants to see. Watching someone ramble on endlessly about the GT-R in the wet is simply meaningless and worthless in the context of the M5. Give us some real journalism and not content for the sake of content.

His review is much better than the previous. He actually covers all aspects of the comparison. Not saying there is a comparison.

True, it is better than the last one. That is not saying much however.

He actually says the two cars have "soo much in common." WTF? "There's one area where the BMW absolutely crucifies the GTR"... cabin quality... duh?
