RPI (Race Precision) customized Stage III ESS VT2 supercharged E60 M5 S85 V10 hits 576.8 wheel horsepower

S85 V10 supercharger kits have lagged pretty far behind S65 development despite the V10 making its debut well before the V8. There are several reasons for this but the supercharged V10's are starting to come into their own. RPI refers to this setup as a Stage III and we are not exactly sure what that means. Higher boost most definitely but what else? Meth? Race gas tune? What fuel was used for the dyno runs and what boost? Why are these details missing?

The vehicle in question has the RPI headers, RPI exhaust, and the RPI oil cooler. 576 wheel on a dyno dynamics is pretty good although this not in shootout mode and compared to other dyno dynamics numbers BimmerBoost's experience with RPI's Dyno Dynamics tells us it is corrected quite a bit. To remove any speculation we would like to see a dyno in shootout mode but since that will not present higher numbers we will not see it. This setup would yield over 600 whp on a dynojet though which we are fairly certain of especially considering a stock M5 puts out 390 whp on the RPI dyno and a stock M5 puts out around the ~420 range on a dynojet.

That would mean a rough estimate of 621 whp on a dynojet. Not bad for what we would guess is a high boost and high octane setup on the stock motor. If the kit was using something larger like the Vortech T-trim, these results would be more impressive on the V10 especially versus T-trim E9X M3's which have cracked the 600 wheel mark.

This motor finally got love. But yea, the SC should have been a bigger one. There is a reason G-Power uses two SC's.

Its called a Stage 3 RPI ESS Kit. Not a ESS Stage 3 which would be a decompressed V10. RPI is doing its own kits it seems with its bolt on and is called their Stage 3.

That is mentioned, RPI is referring to this as their Stage III.

i gotta be honest i have been watching these kids develop for the last few months and im just not impressed at all, my car made just over 500 to the ground NA, This kit was supposed to be the ess stage 2 with an intercooler and then the rpi boltons, thats what makes it a stage 3. The stage 1 kit is less boost and no intercooler and no boltons. So this car gotta have over 25k in it and thats just not enough power for that to me. It might even be more because the headers and exhaust alone are going to be over 8k, after that you still need the sc kit and an install for all of it

for 25 i can build a gtr that will flirt with the 9's, for 25 i can do a 370z with a built motor and a tt kit that will make low 6's, or for 25k you can def get over 600whp in an m3

I mean we are talking 200 whp more than stock on a dynojet... not bad. Should it be pushing more? Probably, let's see what some T-trim kits hit.

You can't compare hp per dollar on BMW's with other cars.

But the GTR and 370Z you mentioned aren't and nobody cares about them. If they do, they aren't on BimmerBoost.

    Nice write up Sticky.

I'd like to see it on a dynojet as well. I'd also like to know more information as well as future videos/results from the events they are going to do with it, as mentioned.

It is Eloy's car, and supposedly the kit is $25K total, which includes the Headers, Exhaust, Oil Cooler, and the ESS VT2 kit.

$25k for 620 whp on the M5? Damn, how is that justified when 600 whp on an M3 runs you around $15k? What is accounting for the inflated price?

We could all give up cars anyway and ride bikes with battery packs we charge and then plug into the grid to give back to society.

i got north of 20k in a 500whp m6, i thought long and hard about this kit and what it would bring to the table, i think my opinion is valid on this topic, i run a nissan dealership and is very involved with a nissan race shop, and i own and built the fastest na m6 in the country!!! so to get 80 or so more hp for another 15k+ isnt worth it to me

I'd like to know what holds the S85 back compared to the S65. It might be room for plumbing and lack of space for the required extra cooling? But the cost per HP seems to be high for the S85. May be as more tuners look at the S85 it might bring parity?

I'm still not happy with what I see in these kits (hot air intakes for one!?). I'll sit and watch.

As for comparing turbo tuning, its an unfair playing field were the turbos will push more power and torque for a lot less buck so no point in going there. No one has come close to a workable S65 or S85 turbo kit.

And I note the bonnet open verse shut debate when dynoing is muddied by the RPI car having louvred bonnet, also having the bonnet (hood) popped will make a difference in engine bay temps. I point this out as it appears to be a hot potatoe for tuners!

Msizzle has a point. I find those gains way to low to call this a stage 3 kit, whatever that means. To me at least, stage 3 means serious horsepower, 600-700 or 800 HP. 576 at the wheels is a stage 1 kit IMO for a car that comes stock with 500 at the crank.

The problem is the headers and other stuff are designed to fit on a NA engine not a FI. the ESS kit is good for 561whp so all the other mods are just good for 20whp ( Yes i know RPI dyno is a Dyno Dynamics ) while the very same mods add 60whp on a NA S85.
