Might take a couple weeks to get everything working but don't worry I'll take care of all our large turbo customers. Click here to enlarge

made a call on the exhaust mod...just couldn't get myself to go with an aftermarket exhaust and be full catless 100% of the time with cabin noise again after having it for 3.5 years...not happening
so, going true hotrod style, 2.5" electric exhaust cutouts from DMH Click here to enlarge open them when racing and WOT pulls otherwise closed...may find a way to wire it in so they open when going into boost with a hob switch but you get the idea...

what do you think? where do you think is the absolute best placement for these on the stock e90 exhaust? I'm thinking either right before the midpipe-downpipe flange (on the midpipe) or a bit further out but definitely before the secondary cats and resonator..

hoping to finally see stock vs. open exhaust dyno numbers as well without the hassle of taking the exhaust off between dyno sessions...

Get a little pedal switch and put it under the gas pedal. Once you hit WOT it will activate the exhaust cutouts! Click here to enlarge

I was looking into this as well, but purely for a sound modification. I was going to place them before the mufflers, inside of the U bends for a more hidden approach. Ultimately, with our cold and salty winters and two rainy seasons of the year, its been rumored that those seals fail rather quickly, and I changed my mind. How are you going to mitigate that? Imagine the drone of those things fail pre secondaries!

Aren't you able to find any well silencing and well flowing mufflers?

I had cutouts on our 335i. The manual ones, before the mufflers. Probably a photo of it somewhere on n54tech. Car got very loud with them open and not in a good way, and didn't go any faster, so we removed them. Click here to enlarge

personally, i was NEVER a fan of the N54 sound, in total, i think i only like the sound of one 6cyl engine ever made, and i think thats the infinit/nissan. for dumps to be worth hp, i would think they would have to be as close to the DP's as possible. anywhere other than that and its just sound

You had them too far back I think...to really take advantage of them they should probably be right at the beginning of the midpipe (right after the midpipe to downpipe flange) as the 2 1/4 inch exhaust ID of the exhaust along with the rear cats is where most of the power loss comes from...

I thought I'd already paid for them at DMH but their Paypal stuff isn't integrated properly into the site right now so i still have to do the payment...i hate a loud exhaust but want to have the least backpressure when going all out and its great to have it at the flick of a button..

can't believe you Terry didn't dyno before and after man..you suck Click here to enlarge

I was back and forth on the HKS as it seems to be the only exhaust worth doing on this car that doesn't drone (has resonated midpipes and mufflers) and has proven gains even on the stock tune (~13whp SAE)...i can also get a nice deal for it but still way more expensive than just cutouts...

in the end, if they don't do anything I can always sell them...not much of a loss

I agree with LM the n54 isn't a great sounding motor with any exhaust I've heard....

My 350z did sound sick when I had it. The m3 s65 sounds amazing though...

No, no... A switch under the gas pedal is way to ghetto and unreliable.
Just use a boost switch from a basic meth kit to activate the cut outs.

Dzenno, do you think you will be slower or faster with the cutouts? Both Terry and Lostmarine tried cutouts and lost some WHP/speed.
