Mission to the Edge of Space

I don't know who thought of making Red Bull the coolest sponsor of the world, but they are it as far as I am concerned.
Red Bull sponsores all the cool events, on all the high profile levels.
One of their latest main sponsorring is to break the all time record for:
    Highest manned baloon ride
    Highest human freefall
    Longest human freefall
    fastest human freefall (Mach1+)

Check it out at the website http://www.redbullstratos.com/

Remember seeing that, insane stuff. Reminds me of this video of a guy that jumped from outside the atmosphere. Probably has to be one of the most intense feelings you could ever experience...I would definitely like to do this if I could.

    The video is worth watching.

This is the exact record this Red Bull attempt is gonna break.
And they are doing some science along the way.

That's crazy, looking forward to seeing how it goes. I really hope they have some nice footage of the free fall. When is it happening?

    From the website:

The jump will happen sometime this year. I know you’re thinking, “how am I going to mark it on my calendar with a vague answer like that?” I can tell you the team has made really good progress in a matter of months, but they need to run more tests. We’re launching out of Roswell, NM so the weather will be another determining factor. Believe me, when it’s time to launch we’ll give a big shout out.

Nice, definitely will have to keep an eye out for that. Would be amazing if they did a live jump.

That was pretty wild... I would be terrified of pressure loss. Unofficially, it looks like he got the record for highest jump, fastest speed (but didn't hit Mach 1) - but didn't get the longest fall. Curious what the real results are.

Yeah - that first site I posted was terrible - they were actually streaming live images of a Blue Screen of Death for a few minutes... I later went to the Red Bull site you posted above. Pretty cool stuff - glad he made it out okay.

It was insane, wanted to see more footage from the space. Hopefully they show the rest of the camera angles.

Looks like he ended up hitting Mach 1.24 - 833.9 miles per hour. Freaking awesome stuff.

So he did the jump. I saw it live as far as Google was not too busy.
    He did break 3 records.
    1. He broke the sound barrier, going over 1300 km/h
    2. He broke the record for highest jump with this 39.000m jump
    3. He broke the record for longest freefall with over 4 minutes of freefall.

    Truely awesome.

I don't think he broke the longest freefall, Joe Kittinger had 4min 36sec and Felix pulled his chute at 4min 20sec.

Wonder why there was no footage from his suit during freefall ? Simply amazing. I cannot believe that he didn't lose consciousness during that uncontrolled freefall.

The cameras on his suit were not "live streaming" they were just there for recording. There are already some footage popping up here and there, but the Red Bull production is bar none. We gonna have some awesome video from this.

This is the best quality one I found so far from his suit. I think they're speaking German but the quality is pretty dang good:
