Evolve Carbon Airbox and Alpha N tuning for the E46 M3

We developed this part last year and thought we'd share the details on Bimmerboost.

Some information on the box itself:

The left side (first part of the box) is based on the traditional OEM CSL airbox. It is not a replica (i.e. it does not have the BMW logo etc but the internal dimensions are in the style of the original) but an incredibly high quality piece based on the original. The box is made from pre-preg carbon as well as the trumpets.

Our units are top, top quality. As you will know, the CSL sound is what a lot of people look for more than anything and from experience it mirrors the sound and then some, unlike quite a few we have heard. This is mainly due to the acoustic characterists of the internal space and material used - harder, better quality carbon produces better sound.

They are extremely well made (you will not find better carbon!). The production is made by a company who manufacture OEM carbon as well as WRC, F1 etc... we were very restricted of what we could show of the inside of the offices! They have never previously produced anything aftermarket so we feel special they decided to only work with us.

A heavy duty pre preg mold is then made which produces each carbon airbox. They are "cooked" in here.

Now that's how you promote a new product! Reminds me why I switched over to the Evolve software.

    Thank you Sal.

Yes, but we gain the same HP @ wheels on a dyno jet as we do on a dyno dynamics at the flywheel.

And that's on independent machines in the USA hired by customers.

I am one of the very lucky individuals who currently own the Evolve CF Airbox. For someone who is very meticulous and demands near perfection, Evolve has definitely achieved this on their Airbox. It is truly a work of art. I have seen the OEM CSL Airbox and several different types of replicas, Evolve is hands down the top quality next to the OEM CSL Airbox. I actually almost purchased an OEM CSL Airbox a year ago, but decided to hold off when I saw that Evolve would be making their own. Aside from Evolve's Airbox being more affordable than OEM CSL, I chose it because of their method of ducting.

If one observes how BMW Motorsports ducts their OEM CSL Airbox on the P54B32, you'll notice that it is very similar to Evolve's, just not as pretty as Evolve designed it.

I can't wait to finally get mine installed. I am just waiting for Winter to die down and to finish collecting some other parts for preventative maintenance. There is no doubt I'll be posting a thorough review of back to back dynos, photos, and videos.

If Evolve Automotive doesn't mind, here are a few pics of my own box taken from my tiny point and shoot camera.

Supposed to be shipped out March 9th. I have plenty of baseline runs with their current MAF tune, and will happily share my results with dyno sheets (same dyno, same operator) after install.

The group buy guys frim m3 forum have been waiting since last year. I just snagged his spot this week as he's going hpf stage 2 now.

I will post a new thread with before after dynos. I still need to go back after full adaptation for the Evolve tune. I flashed their tune when i was still strapped to the dyno testing another brands tune.

30 chp gain from an air box and tune for $4200 LOL! Why not just get a used supercharger kit for around same price but gain 3x the whp over this? Dont get me wrong it is a very pretty air box.

Thank you for contributing to the betterment of this thread. Your contributions are noteworthy. If cheap power was the goal here, we'd all be in a different chassis. I would buy a foxbody mustang ($2000), and; 1) build a junkyard 351w into a 408 stroker ($1200), 2) buy some cheap steel wheels and some D/R's ($700), 3) add a bottle of funny juice ($350) and call it a day. All for the price of a nice set of track wheels for this car.

Some folks value N/A power. To each their own, but I feel boosting the S54 is sacrilegious. So boosted power is not my goal.

Just a Question for you Jacobs3231: What is your stance on a $1500-$2200 muffler that doesn't make any power for the S54 (just exacerbates the fart-can noise)? Do you throw in your infinite wisdom on those threads as well...including the LOLs..? Or is spending $2 grand for noise acceptable?

30 HP on this car is no joke. The sound is intoxicating as well. Contrary to the dozens of aftermarket fart-cans for this car, this box provides a lovely sound AND considerable power.

    Cheers mate,
    Mike

p.s. The group buy price was $3,000 for the whole kit BTW. Click here to enlarge

Some people want NA power and if you want NA power this is a very good way to go.

Thanks for the compliment Mike! It took a while to bring this to market but the end result is definitely worth it.

There are a lot of S54 owners that crave a CSL induction roar - this gets them close to that.

I like the look of the evolve over csl box side by side. Especially the trunk heading into the bumper. I saw one of your boxes with the BMW M sticker and it looked cleaner side by side to oem CSL. It was on m3 cutters. Flame on CSL whores.

That is why my cash went to evolve. Sound and power were already there. Can't wait to get your box!

    Mike

p.s. Any date on the group buy shipments?
