    FMIC Comparison Thread

    This thread is purely a means to compare the intercooler options on the market. If you intend to start arguing please go do it in the Advanced Tech subforum or on Dzenno's thread Click here to enlarge

    I'll start us off here with my old ETS 5" FMIC and my new Godspeed V Mount bought on eBay for $150. The Godspeed is the same dimensions as CX Racing. 3.5" deep and with 2.5" inlets and outlets.

    Wow that godspeed IC is super cheap. Photos of the hoses and brackets you used to connect it up?

    Wonder if I could pull an evaporator coil off one of our scratch & dent AC units and fab something up.....

    cool pics Brey...i think to make this really effective it'd be perfect if we had a ruler next to the fins and a full on close up to the fins...those that you have are good too but i think something even closer to the fins with a ruler in there would be best...

    from the pics you posted the fin designs on the ETS and the Godspeed look the same to me...anyone else?

    Found some closeups of AMS FMIC...not the greatest as we can't see the fins that well, just the surface...but from these pics the fin design looks to be the same as the 2 above as well...if anyone has actual closeups of the AMS FMIC please post:

    Here's a pull with the AMS FMIC on cobb stage 2+ posted by someone on e90post...temps rise 28.5F for what seems to be a 3rd gear pull and a bit into 4th...definitely not redlining...seems to have a not so great IAT fingerprint as expected?

    On paper yes, in the real world, its bogus and 9F wouldn't matter much at all...part of the reasoning behind this thread, other than to compare the FMICs, is to put things into perspective in the real world as well

    My initial comparison between AMS and Helix. In my experiences, Helix is superior to AMS in IATs. And this holds true for all FMIC datalogs that I have seen. In DZ’s thread I have 3 logs posted with IAT rise of <10degF: tried to insert link, but some common word error is not letting me... SOB

    BUT I do think AMS flow is very good. Unfortunately this is an opinion because Ihave doubt in my datalogs due to a recent boost issue and cleaning my valves at the same time I switched… can’t be certain I’m comparing identical hardware conditions with WGDC datalogs. But my estimateis >5% difference at 15psi around 5000 rpm… this is significant in my opinion and would be much higher with increased boost. Truthfully, I am regretting my decision to change. But in AZ should work very well in the summer.

    I’ll post some AMS datalogs when I get to my other computer.

    Thanks, that explains things, I think I wont be ditching my ETS anytime soon. I only want about 500whp in the future with this car anyways.

    I'll have a closer look at the wgdc logs on my car eventually too...at a quick glance i didn't notice much change but a dyno should also tell a few things...

    You're right. I just didn't have a ruler at my house. I did glance back and forth between the two repeatedly and I think the Godspeed unit has slightly more rows across the same height...

    Also, I have personally handled ETS, HPF, and now Godspeed and I can't say I see any improvement between any of them in terms of the core.

    Here's some good pics on the KL-racing core, captured by R1000K3.
    I'm pretty sure that the only N54 IC with staggered inner fins is ETS, but that also creates some extra pressure drop.
    The KL racing IC has a billions of holes in the inner fins, which will create some good turbulence, without that extra pressure drop.
