Anyone willing to do an Advanced Tech article on reading turbocharger compressor maps?

Anyone? Just make a new thread and I'll close this one with a link to it.

We had a post on it somewhere but would like a thread dedicated to it in this section.

This is not a very technical thread you started sticky... Already the super high Advanced technical forum has been diluted

Are you looking for a thread explaining compressor maps, or do you want further explanation for how to choose a turbo based on compressor maps? DBFIU's "Blower Sizing and You" thread has an excellent explanation of compressor maps. Turbos are only slightly different as they are not operating at a fixed rpm ratio to the engine.

I'm a little bit busy these days, if someone else can start the thread detailing compressor maps with rigorous physics, I can add to it later. Please no copy/pastes from wikipedia, use real physics and real theory to help everyone understand how a turbocompressor works.

The Garrett tech section actually has some excellent material. For those willing to click and read, the learning objective will be accomplished. I won't cut and paste as that would violate the rules... Click here to enlargehttp://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbob...Tech%20103.pdf Sticky, Is it original content you're looking for?

Yes. Something like how to read a compressor map for dummies.

You want 3 to 4 articles to cover it all properly without losing the reader's attention. Even for myself, it can be a lot to digest in one sitting.

The thing is.....a number of sites have already done this very well from a theoretical standpoint. (MotoIQ comes to mind) To top that, you'd really need an OEM like Garret to come on board and spread some knowledge around.

What's missing is the practical side.....pictures...video....data...instrumentatio n. Not many people have this stuff...or are going to post their data openly. Precision Turbo for example STILL don't provide compressor maps!

"Hello Garret or Borg Warner engineer? We have a platform for you to preach from!"

    I would contact both....

You are definitely correct that this has been done by others but I think if we did it in a very easy to understand manner it may bridge a gap between entry level to the topic and advanced.

If you want a benchmark article that is going to draw new readership, you'll need to offer new material....as in media that I described above.

Also, it shouldn't force people to read through everything to get "basic" knowledge. When I write executive summaries, I paint a map for how to get to the basic info fast, as well as the detailed stuff.

Hopefully someone reading this will take up the challenge....

Edit: I just noticed I've made more than 1,000 posts....do I get any special powers....I don't feel any different?
