I've raced so many other N54's with all kind of different intercoolers, without any losses so far...
That's proof good enough for me, which clearly shows that the Chinese junk is doing it's job. Click here to enlarge

Theoretical test results such as pressure drop tests, flow tests etc, etc doesn't interest me at all.

To me AA and Big Tom ICs look very similar. I don't like either due to 90deg bends and larger volumes... I guess much will have to do with the cooling fins though. I give props to Big Tom for finding and fabbing lower price, "good" option. BUT don't expect it to be the best.

On the street IAT will basically win, but there can be some effects not realised like higher PR then necessary, especially when running meth.

Anyway i got convinced by both marketing and others logs over my common sense and purchased a Helix. We'll see how it compares on the street to the AMS.

I agree they both look similar but I dont think you can differentiate between the two just by looking at them side by side

If you only knew the amount of R&D that is behind that special designed core and hightech endtanks on the AA unit, and you would never throw out such a foolish statement! Click here to enlarge

Ok fine I will, I think I've proven my point Click here to enlarge..I just think it so funny when someone says their intercooler is better because they raced other 335's with different intercoolers and won...

I've never claimed it's better than the others. Only that it's doing the job, despite of the low price and "crappy Chinese quality".

So if it performs as good as the more expensive alternatives and its cheaper, does that not make your intercooler better? Am I missing something?

I mean, if I had something that was cheaper than its counterparts and performed as good..well then to me, that means its better

Drop the bull$#@!. Big Tom, read the rules. If you can't be part of a constructive and educational thread then just don't post here. No need for sarcasm and rhetorical questions. I am telling you what I think because I have experience with these systems. I am not paid to do this. I do this for the community because I give a $#@!.

Your intercooler costs 300 dollars for a reason. I am not worried about IAT. You are completely missing the point. IAT is not even what my article is about. I clearly stated that we are not talking about heat transfer effectiveness. I am concerned more with pressure drop because the N54 platform suffers from small turbos syndrome.

If you restrict the turbos on the compressor outlet side you will be moving vertically and to the right on your compressor map which forces them to spin faster. A high pressure drop intercooler probably has good heat transfer effectiveness, again see my article. At the same time it is forcing your turbos to hit 20 psi boost when you are targeting just 16, and they are screaming at 180k RPM.

For the second time, re-read my article. Study the concept I am laying out. This is for people to have a better understanding of flow physics.

This is turning into a stupid thread. My intention was not that. If you have a problem with my 'gut check' list, then ask a question or give us something constructive and keep the emotional responses in off topic.

Lastly, the 'if it works in real life, I dont care about theory' mentality is for people that either dont want to learn about real theory or want to justify their own motives. Good theory is the reason technology has evolved. If you want to stay practical, go get a horse and carriage.

Some people lives for their complex theories, and some people lives for the actual experience.
Some people race their cars with their keyboard and some people race their cars in real life.

...and I certainly know what I'm in for.

    Sorry for that.

So do you have pressure drop data to back up your real world experience?

Yes we know you are a 'real racer'. I guess my boss should fire me, because all the turbines and diffusers I've designed that are out on the field really suck because all I know is theory. And my customers shouldnt have paid us. And the EPA should have shut me down because the exhaust emissions I predicted were too high... etc... etc..

I obviously have no idea what I'm talking about, and your intercooler is the best one on the market today.

It's irrelevant what you do. I know it doesn't involve fluid mechanics. You clearly know zero about the subject. I only bring up the fact that I deal with this subject because you take me for a fool.

I bet you think Corky Bell knows nothing about it either. Yea, he's just a keyboard racer!!

On a serious note, of course I know who he is.
...but that doesn't change the fact that my embarrassing, Chinese gadget makes my car go fast.
