    Ipad 2 advice

So, I'm sick of having to fix my parents computers every time they $#@! something up because they have no idea what they are doing. Just going to buy them an Ipad to have piece of mind.

Is the 3g necessary? Those of you who have it, any complaints? Recommend another tablet?

Primary goal is simply a device even someone who is a retard can use and not $#@! up.

My advice is to not buy an Ipad2. There are many more much better alternatives out there. If the house in which they will be using the tablet has wifi coverage from your home router then obviously the 3g plan is just going to be money thrown into the wind. So if the tablet stays at home for which 99% of the time they do, then there is no point in getting a data plan from the blood sucking cell companies. Get the WiFi variant and save money on the tablet and the plan.

For the price of an Ipad 2 next month you will be able to buy a much much much better android tablet. The Asus Transformer Prime, which will be a quad core tablet, I have the original asus transformer and I let my mom play with it, so if she can use an android tablet you don't need a "retard proof" Ipad2. But it's your money in the end so get whatever you want.

Here is the specs on the tablet I was talking about:

Thanks, yes, seems the 3G is not necessary but what if I wanted to borrow it? Can I use my exiting data plan or do I need an additional one?

I'll check out the one you linked me to but I'm leaning toward the Ipad.

The iPad may not have the tech specs that some other have, but it's very very usable.

If you have a phone that can serve as a wifi 'hotspot', you can access data that way. I've 'tethered' my iPad to my iPhone until I got around to activating the 3G and it worked fine. Consider a Zagg keyboard/case if you want to make typing 100X easier.

I think it's an additional 14.99/mo for 250 MB. When you add an iPad with AT&T.
With wifi at home I wouldn't consider getting 3G coverage on my iPad.

    Enable it in your settings.
    Assuming you have unlimited data?

LOL, what the hell do I need another 3G plan for now?

That is awesome if possible but I'm looking for the setting.

    Yes, unlimited data.

I use my iPad for surfing the web, like now Click here to enlarge, and I bought the 3G version and only use the 3G when I take it on vacation or if my wifi is down, like all of last week with the power outage from the snow.
You can sign up and cancel the 3G month to month, so you're not stuck paying every month if you're not using it.

If your parents travel a bit, the 3G is worth while.
The keyboard does suck ass, that's why I'll always keep my Blackberry for work!

Well, as long as all they need to do is basic remedial things, Ipad should be fine. Plus, they even have a keyboard for it.

    Basic and remedial sounds perfect.
