Pitting on windshield, ceramic film to prevent this?

I recently acquired an e90 M3, and since I have owned it - have noticed that there is significant pitting on the windshield. I have heard of people putting a ceramic "coating" on the windshield to prevent this - is there anyone out there that has done something like this? Will insurance cover the pitting (it's actually very bad) if I show them this? I have heard that this specific windshield is crazy expensive because of the thermo-rain sensor? Not sure if that's true - but I want to get this worked out.

    Any feedback is appreciated.

    Cheers.

I barely even drove my E92 M3 and noticed the POS BMW windshield chipping in a lot of areas.

This is a widespread problem on the E9X series.

Not sure how much the windshield costs to replace or of a coating to prevent it.

I had my windshield replaced recently. It was extremely trashed, like if I drove thru a dessert for thousands and thousands of miles. I had to get it replaced in the end because it started cracking badly and didn't notice until it was too late. The insurance covered it. Had it replaced at 56k miles lol.I was charged $800 btw. The windshield alone was about $500.......

This is what I meant on the coating - first time I have heard about it (it looks really neat from outside in also)

Yeah, I know... I tried to do some digging - but cannot find out anything... I guess I could write the magazine, but chances of them replying are probably slim... I hope someone knows what this stuff is/where to get it. Click here to enlarge

3m makes a film that racers use, but i doubt its something you would want on a dd car
