    E46 318i - what to do ?

    Well now,

I have this pretty neat looking E46 (don't bash on it's 4x4 status):

It didn't pass inspection because it had a cracked exhaust manifold, so i've been thinking what to do... i haven't been able to obtain a exhaust manifold anywhere (nobody seems to have these 4bangers for parts)

So... i have a Turbo off a Subaru Impreza GT 1999 model, that seems to be in good shape... and i can get a set of (4x) 440cc injectors for a good price...

Should i have a friend of mine make a 4cyl exhaust manifold, slap on the GT2835, install the 440cc injectors, and run it and see what happens ? (i know it will take a custom tune)

What do you reckon a M43 in it's stock form can take in boost ?? 8-10psi might be safe ??

Should i run it intercooled, or just leave it without a intercooler ?

I say do it, the block should handle 10 psi. regarding to put a IC in, it mostly depends on the climate of your area.

I live in Iceland, and the climate here is cold oceanic..

Winters here are relatively mild considering the latitude of the country. The winter temperatures average around 0C (32F) in the Winter, while the average on the glaciers is around −10C (14F). The lowest temperatures in the northern part of the country are in the range of around -25 to -30C (-13 to -22F). The lowest temperature on record is i believe −39.7C (−39.5F).

In the summers the average July temperature in the southern of Iceland is 1013C (5055F). Warm days in the summer are considered the ones where the temperature reaches 2025C (6877F). The highest temperature ever recorded is 30.5C (86.9F) at the east of Iceland and was recorded in 1939.

I do have the intercooler laying around aswell, it's just a matter of fitment and piping...

I wouldn't bother with it. I say mod the e36, and leave that as the winter beater since you said its awd correct?

No it's RWD, i said it had 4x4 status (meaning it had great fendergap)

The E36 has been stripped and is waiting on a cage install and more, it will get a LSx motor in the future, so this will have some budget turbo setup Click here to enlarge

    I really can't drive a car with less than 200hp !

I hear ya man. I say swap in another motor maybe an m52 to swap in, and turbo that. I have a boost logic manifold if you are interested let me know.

A M52/M54 over here is costly... 200.000ISK at least if i want one with a gearbox that mates to it...

The manifold is cracked anyway and there aren't any available at BMW salvagers so maybe building a budget turbo will cost me around 30.000ISK for Injectors + building the manifold, piping from the turbo to the intercooler and then to the intake, and add some tuning (i would anyway have to get a someone to sync the EWS, wich would cost the same)... and we have a 160-180hp budget built TURBO E46 Click here to enlarge
