    Coilover question

    Hey guys,

I've decided I want to pull the trigger on some coilovers but i'm seeking some advice on what coilover set up to go with.

First of all I should mention, I don't track my car, but I do enjoy some spirited driving from time to time. This car will be driven on the street 100% of the time and is not my daily driver. I don't want a overly stiff ride but I do want the car to be low and handle way better than it does now. Right now I have eibach sport springs and the stock suspension. I've been searching pretty hard on various forums and don't really have much of a direction from anyone. I really want to avoid any squeeking or creeking issues that I have read about.

    Anyone have any suggestions?

    My car is a 2007 335 coupe.

    Thanks,

    Bob

i have KW v2's they're really nice. not as much adjustment as eugene's v3's but enough for the majority of drivers. lamia has the v1's and he likes them too.

Honestly, the KW's have had their fair share of problems. There must be another good setup that people carry.

I know there was a thread at the beginning of this year about suspension, and Matt@cambertoe came up with some very good arguments why KW's were not the way to go. Can not find the thread though.
    Maybe this will help some.

What about PSS9's? I've read some good reviews on them. My buddy had kw's on his S4 and didnt like them. They squeaked over bumps. Odd job and Eugene, do your KWs make any noise?

as a matter of fact i am hearing a squeak sometimes at relative speed in the rear only on bumps in the road. i thought it was the rear swaybar bushings, you think its the coils going? i put these coils on when i began road racing the car back in spring of '07. have never made much adjustment other than camber/toe. how do i diagnose the squeak?

I had V3 in my car as well, so easy to adjust and good quality. Noise? Yes, but the roads here aren't silky as yours and most suspension make noise here with these roads.

However, If i remember correctly Matt stated that KW's aren't good and Koni's are much better.

Koni yellow/swift spring coilivers are the way to go. They can be cheaper or the same prive as bilsteins, depending on how you want you options. They dont lower the car all that much but they do transform the way the car rides.

When I get to work I will send you a PM...still no power at the house here and my phone battery is dying lol

    Matt,

Thanks! I'll look for the PM. My buddy has a 911 turbo with pss9's and loves them. He says they are perfect for the street and can lower the car pretty far if you so desire. I want a low car but I also want good handling and don't want the ride to suffer to much.

The issue with e9x's is that there really isnt a lot of travel designed into these suspensions. Bmw designed a whole lot of droop, which is great when the car is on the lift, but as far as compression its very limited...using oem height struts result in pounding the bumpstop more often then not.

So if you dumped the stock tires, why did you stick to the RE050a's ?
    They aren't that great...

Honestly that's the tires that came in the wheel and tire package I bought. They work great, no noise, plenty of grip. They are 235/19/35 front and 265/19/30 rear. Not sure if they are a different tread pattern or what bc they definitely have no grip in the snow!

well, if you are only running those tires why dont u just upgrade your tires? that will make a huge difference in grip and turn in.

Also, do you even push those tires to the limit on the street on spirited drives? Im pretty sure the stock suspension can handle better tires than what you have, im not saying run R-comps with stock suspension but some PSS/RE-11/AD08 etc..will make a huge difference.

I was just asking cause I see so many people waste money on mods they dont need or use. As u said its 100 percent street car. So im sure the basic Kw's will cut it, especially if you are driving on crap stock tires.
