    N55 + Stage2 + Meth Dyno Results

    Hey guys,

Spent the morning on the dyno exploring the upper limits of the N55's power potential.

The car is our 2011 135i w/ DCT, JB4 (Stage2), AR 4" downpipe, and WW quick install meth kit. I have an N55 Helix IC for it but have not had time to install it yet, hopefully soon! The car is using the same Shell 91 octane + NOS octane booster it's been on for the past 3k miles. Temps were in the low 70s.

For today's meth testing I wound up having to run 100% duty cycle most of the power band. Meaning the JB4 is working the wastegate as much as it can be worked. And even in that trim it struggled to hold 17psi @ 5000rpm and 13psi @ 6000rpm. Overall I'm happy with the results but sad to report this motor with the stock turbo is about tapped out at around 370rw. Maybe with the IC on cold day we can extend that to 385rw. But it's going to take a questionably loose dynojet and a prayer to get to 400rw. Click here to enlarge

On the plus side I superimposed one of the runs against the same car when it was stock and was pleased with the 100whp delta.

Despite the small turbo you guys are going to *love* Stage2. All the N54 functionality is there, we've put lagfix back in, and partial throttle is buttery smooth. Click here to enlarge

Nice work Terry. The N55 looks to be so much weaker than the N54 with that single turbo. This car begs for a bigger single.......

Sweet Terry... Too bad X5/X6/535 is going to be a way's away... Not to hi-jack the thread, but any ETA on the DP fix for the Stg 1 tune, or is this gonna be integrated into Stg 2 when it's released?

The Stage2 has it built in. With the Stage1, you have the option of using the CT full time in autoclear mode.

It feels really fast. At least 117mph. When it cools off around here I'll head out to the track.

Thanks. A larger single would be great... although our target market is the easy install and removal crowd. So it may be some time before we delve in to serious modifications with it.

where do you plan to shift it? that is a hulluva hp taper (due to boost taper) the reason i ask is 5k where you plan to shift? 5.5? anymore and i bet you can feel that drop off. i mean look at the log, the engine speed slope starts to level out as you approach 6k.

I'm thinking around 5900rpm will give the best times. It's a 7spd DCT so only falls back 1200rpm or so.

Promoting this to the front page.

So the turbo struggles to hold more than 13 psi past 5000 rpm? So really this is it for bolt on power potential? Somewhere in the 380's is the limit?

It's weaker on the stock turbo than the N54 is on its stock twins but it isn't terrible.

Tapers to 13psi @ 6000rpm give or take. 370rw is no slouch but it ain't say 430rw. I avoided posting a comparison N54 overlay to avoid depressing N55 guys. Click here to enlarge

It's ok, the N55 guys will get the N54 guys back when they have a working single turbo upgrade.

that would be great actually Click here to enlarge but it would be interesting to see the torque curve difference, including spool time, im sure you can find one with similar mods.

We posted N55 and N54 overlays, courtesy of BMS: http://www.bimmerboost.com/showthrea...-whp-94-octane

Well, that's what happens when people $#@! about lag. Click here to enlarge

Really though, I bet it feels great around town. Nothing beats that surge of torque from a big turbo(s) once it finally spools though. Not to mention sounding like a jet! Click here to enlarge

The time will come, both for the N54 AND the N55. Click here to enlarge

I'm sure it will go 11s on a cool night. If I can keep that wheel hop away. Hoping the 1st gear limiting does the trick.

For $500 my F10 N55 had FBOs and I added the BMS meth kit and look at. Drop off in the boost curve at higher rpm is dramatically reduced and I'm hitting boost levels I didn't think were possible, and weren't without the meth.

How do you know your power is not falling off? Lets see a dyno my bro inlaw has the same car except no inter cooler or meth kit yet and coming from my c63 it def still feels like its dropping off hard uptop. The constant gear changes and short rpm drops make it feel like its not but it sure is. Best to shift before redline as well
