    BMW F10 5 M5 Nurburgring laptime is in - 7:55 - 18 seconds faster than E60 M5, 5 seconds slower than E46 M3 CSL

    A BMW factory driver just clocked in a 7:55 Nurburgring lap time in the F10 M5. This makes the car 4 seconds faster around the ring than the CTS-V and 1 second faster than the Panamera Turbo, the only other 2 production sedans under the 8 minute mark. So, the F10 M5 is the new king of the ring for now until Porsche takes the time away from BMW with the Panamera Turbo S. What is also interesting is that the F10 M5 was faster by 10 seconds than the manual E92 M3 but slower than the E46 M3 CSL.

    I can't find the exact curb weight for the new M5 but it is over 4000 pounds.

    Everyone says that that new safety regulations are causing cars to get heavier. I also think it has something to with how manufacturers have to be able to brag about interior space and stuff like that...you will see a Lexus commercial that says "More leg room than a BMW" or "More trunk space than a Cadillac". The fact is that enthusiasts that want smaller better handling cars really make up a small population of car buyers. People love 0 - 60 times but they also love to brag about having more trunk space. JMO

    It is going to be well over 4,000 when they release US curb weights.

    Considering they list the 550i at 4,376 lbs.

    Very good point. However, if that is the case the E63 will undercut it by almost 300 pounds. That is an inexcusable weight difference.

    True but I think the 5 series is bigger than the E class. It's not just about bragging about the extra space...it's actually, you know, useful. Nobody even fights for the front seat in our F10 any more, I'm 6'3" and I have room to spare in the back and we haven't come close to filling its trunk yet.

    ...so I guess my point is I wish it was smaller and better to drive Click here to enlarge to me, the E60 was the perfect size.

    I'll check the dimensions with the E but I doubt the E is much if any smaller. The 5 has pretty much always been lighter than the E.

    It cam stock with Michelin Pilot Sport Cups I think. Whatever the rubber was, it was an R compound.

    a friend of mine told me once that CSL without slick tires clocked ring in 8:08, don't know if his source was reliable.

    Car didn't set it with slicks but DOT Pilot Sport Cups. Also, the car comes with them stock so who would be running it without them? Doubt the source is reliable.

    it was winter. CSL owners usually change the tires in rainy months because Sport Cups lose grip easily on wet surface.

    it seems they have to sign that they understood the tyres don't work on wet.

    The CSL isn't really a winter car. It's a balls out performance car.

    I can understand changing the tires to use it in the winter though although that certainly isn't its purpose.

    The purpose of CSL is to be quick, and running Pilot Sport Cups on wet track would be very slow... Or are you saying that it is not intended to be run on wet at all? Then, I guess, it should not have wipers either.

    I'm not sure. I myself never tried sport cups on wet, but according to the owners they don't work on wet because Sport Cups are almost slick tires.

    Hmmm, they say RS4 is a sub 8 minutes car and they are wrong.

    RS4 did it in 8:25, not sure how they missed the extra 26 second ?!

    Good point, I don't remember a sub 8 minute RS4 lap time.
