The S62 came out by 1999. Its been 12 years and we have not seen healthy turbocharged S62s running around.

hpf started and quit the E39 M5 turbo kit.

I did work on several twin supercharged S62s, built engines, and did not like the S62.

Your neighbour better swap a S54 and an aftermarket FI kit and be happy. Or else the R&D will be a big burden. Just my 2 cents...
Why do you think it's a bad platform? The S62 isn't some magical unicorn V8 that won't accept forced induction. The market for forced induction on the e39 M5 just isn't that big. That's why there's only one commercial kit available right now.

HPF also stopped their project because it wasn't going to make them money, not because the hardware and tuning was impossible. They would have done it if there was enough interest to net them a return, but there simply wasn't.

No, the M62 is a better FI platform IMO. Thicker cylinder walls and a single throttle body to deal with. If anything, the M62 is the way to go and Mert is right in some ways about the S62.

Seems like about half the time I think it might be fun to give something mild a try with the M62, and then the rest of the time I feel like it's a nice car in need of an LSx motor or now a 2JZ.... Blasphemy, but come on!!!
I have no problem tuning my 4.9L M62. It is OBD1, so I can get chip tuning, and with the Miller War Chip, I can get 4 tunes on 1 chip. I use a local Audi speed shop in Fremont, CA. called 04 Motorsport. And concerning the S62, why not do a Alpha-N tune.

I think we've gone over this - if its forced induction, ESPECIALLY TURBO, you really don't want to do an Alpha-N tune because throttle position is a poor indicator of load.
