    Sony gets hacked again

Seems they have pissed off a group of talented hackers: http://news.cnet.com/8301-31021_3-20...ag=topStories1

A group of hackers said today that they have broken into several Sony Web sites and compromised the personal data of more Sony customers.

On the site Pastebin, Lulzsec wrote: "We recently broke into SonyPictures.com and compromised over 1,000,000 users' personal information, including passwords, email addresses, home addresses, dates of birth, and all Sony opt-in data associated with their accounts. Among other things, we also compromised all admin details of Sony Pictures (including passwords) along with 75,000 'music codes' and 3.5 million 'music coupons'."

this all stems from the initial homebrewing of the ps3 source code. the team (that will not be named) have done countless homebrews(think of it as jailbreaking so to speak) for the ps3 and sony didnt take light to it. They targeted an individual who had a very strong hand in the effort george hotz aka geohotz....(if anyone remembers this is the kid who jailbroke the very first iPhone) sony retaliated and went the legal approach and the group of (i call social engineers not hackers) retaliated for targeting one of their major contributors......they acted individually who they couldnt speak as a group.....the intrusion was done pretty thorough and by it seems simple sql injection which shame on sony for not scrubbing ANY information that comes through their systems.....Sticky its very similar to what happened to the servers that host bimmerboost were exposed to....there was just an extra level of complexity as this sql was retrieving info and basically returning resultsets of customer information kept within the system.

Microsoft should count their blessings that they aren't being targeted by a group of coordinated and talented hackers.

This is true....in a way....M$ has had there Windows broken a time or two. So why hasnt Live been messed with??...I do know the back story to the PS hack and I have to somewhat see the hackers point....Not that I agree with what they did.

MS is a big target but it seems their security is actually much better. What bigger target is there than Windows really?

That isn't bigger really, it's more server side oriented but not nearly the exposure.
