Precision Sport working on twincharged (supercharger + turbo) E36 M3?

They threw this teaser up on their facebook page... seems something interesting might be brewing that nobody has done:

cool project, looking forward to it.
BTW i was thinking about a twin supercharger/twin charger idea, a twin screw for the low end and a centri for higher rpm's, did someone something like that before?

I wonder what kind of power they are making, and who is doing the tuning?

Can I ask a question? To some this may sound stupid but with the advancements of turbo technology is twincharging even worth it? From what I heard it very hard to do and a lot of people ditched the idea. Would it be easier to twin turbo but one small and one big?

    Thanks

P.S. Anyone ever seen this thread? I wish them luck but I have a feeling it might end up something like this.

for throttle response it's the way to go, a small twin scroll is still laggy compared to a twin screw.
overall i think they are doing this because it sounds cooler than TT not for the throttle response.

The video is quite the parody as the car went in supercharged and owner asked them to retain it so they make a joke of it.

I can't imagine how they would do the piping between the turbo outlet and throttle body. There is no room left with the supercharger in place. Assuming they use a series arrangement of super>turbo>engine and conventional mounting positions. Cooling the charge between the compressors and after the turbo will be interesting too. Vertically stacked, dual air-air intercoolers of some sort.

I'll believe when I see it, but I have doubts.

I think this is just a matter of doing something different because they can.

Well we don't have full details anyway, could be two SC's, who knows.

Well this type of setup has no purpose, it's cool but pointless and here's why.

A centrifugal supercharger builds boost vs RPM, so it's a 'high RPM' power adder. A turbo tends to build boost at high RPM, also; it's also regarded as a high RPM power adder. The only way you can supercharge and turbocharge and use both effectively IMO is with a roots style blower and a turbo, this way you get the low end boost of the blower and top end boost of the turbo. Having a centri and turbo together is like having a twin turbo with 80 less HP because of the blower.

One thing I wanted to add, a setup like this is complicated from a control point of view.

A blower and a turbo are both flow vs. pressure devices but perform these functions differently, the problem comes when you want to put the two in PARALLEL. Meaning, they both flow out, and merge into one pipe (to gain the advantage of having low RPM boost and high RPM boost in one motor). Putting them in parallel means that if either of these devices are not producing the exact same amount of boost at any given time, the other device will surge or backflow. Which means, there must be a CONTROLLED valve of some sort in there. Which means, there must be some complex logic programmed into a system like this.

If you put the turbo in SERIES with the roots style blower (some people have done this) then its fine, because they are multiplicative (pressure ratio multiplies but flow rate leaving one device must equal flow rate entering the second device).

In any case, it gets extremely complicated and there is no reason to do it this way. This is one reason why many OEMs dont even bother installing a system like this (too many parts, too complicated, $#@! can break, why bother?) when you can have the same power and response from a simpler turbo only or blower only engine.

Some companies have experimented with this system, but it's not cost effective for them to develop this.

Sure it my be pointless and whatnot but how many people can actually pull it off? It's cool to see different things.

Can you just give us some details on the forced induction setup? Turbo + sc but what kind of SC?
