JB4 boost oscillation issues at elevation

I'm a little out of sorts to be honest at the moment .. was just doing some casual cruising in Map 1 after work today, and my boost was oscillating like crazy at partial throttle. It also did that several times when I first got the JB4, too. Terry gave me a firmware fix which seemed to help, but tonight it was just as bad as ever.

I decided to do a few WOT runs, and it smoothed itself out. It seems so inconsistent.

Part of me just wants to rip the thing out .. at least when I had a slow 335i, it was predictable! Gah! But I love the power, when it works.

Interesting, give Terry a chance to work it out.

How inconsistent has it been? What are the issues you are experiencing?

mm, I'm all for mods, hope you get what you're looking for! Most i'll do on my end is get some DPs/exhaust and call it a day. I have the JB4/dci/FMIC...so we'll see what happens.

Before you get ypurself more mods be.sure to have this problem solved first.
It is.so.much.easier to.go.problem solving.when there are less variables in the.equation.
    Less things.to.blame so to speak.

The main issues are occasional boost oscillation, intermittent rough acceleration, inconsistent power -- some days it feels like a rocket ship, other days, it almost feels stock (Our outside temps have been more or less the same recently, so it's not like cold day vs hot day). Car oil temp is always >200oF before I apply power.

It's never felt 100% right - I'd say 90% good for 70% of the time. I've never had any codes, or engine lights.

Yup -- agreed. Tonight I'm going to do lots of testing with different scenarios. Weather is a bit warmer today too .. so hopefully it'll give more chance for the problems to show their ugly heads!

what do you mean oscillating like crazy at part throttle?

**edit** just read above. do you have code clear on? you may be getting codes and not know it if it clears too fast

I disabled the auto clear .. hoping to see something interesting Click here to enlarge

Car appears normal if I go map 0. But I'll do some scientific testing tonight!

What your seeing as boost ocillation could very well be throttle closure. Hence no codes.
Do you have the ability to log timing by any chance?
Did you try the Cobb tune for comparison?

It's easy to fix but still waiting to see your oscillation on a log. Otherwise we would just be guessing at where the problem lies. You're probably just traversing thorugh some part of the mapping not used by others (higher elevation, 50% throttle but not full throttle, etc). If you need any addl help just email. Not much time lately for checking forums.

Here's a few JPG logs .. mostly rolling on and off the throttle. Map 1. Outside temp 18oc (64oF). I will email both CSVs to Terry.

I experienced no major oscillation today, unlike yesterday - but I did feel some stuttering. Car felt very fast today, but was not what I'd call smooth.

Half-throttle .. rolling on and off:

Rolling on and off WOT at lower RPM:

    WOT 2nd -> 3rd .. couldn't go super fast .. hit traffic

Thanks, I'll check em out. On the last one look at RPM. Either a logging error or you're actually bouncing around off the red limiter at WOT (e.g. clutch slippage, etc).

New firmware test uploaded .. thanks for speedy service, Terry.

Overall car felt very strong -- so strong I shouted expletives multiple times. However the stuttering is still there at partial throttle some of the time, but I think we're heading in the right direction.

Had some nasty oscillation at the end .. I think this is the part of the log that reflects my experience!

Well, yes it can, as he is experiencing stuttering unless you mean the service which yes, top notch.

If we can get the stuttering to go away, and the intermittent oscillation, life will be good!

I have a track day coming up on 23rd .. but I'll only put my car in if it's running 100%.

Car felt great today .. I did a couple of logs -- Map 1 zero lagfix, and Map 2 normal lagfix, as per request. Sent to Terry.

No major issues on either map .. no oscillation .. and I'm beginning to wonder if the 'hesitation' on part throttle is me feeling the turbo PSI ramping up .. maybe I don't feel it at WOT because it happens a lot quicker?

Warmest day of the year too .. and warmest evening.

My bumper after the 30 minute logging expedition .. stupid bugs ..
