I would say no more than 500 should be good, it's more of how you break it in.

I was not clear enough. How far into YOUR break-in are you?

On another note... I was always told to drive it like you stole once at operating temperature. Bounce off the rev limiter or float the valves in order to seat those rings properly. But I started with pushrod V8's....

I believe in driving it harder rather than babying it.

Not to disagree, but all my BMW techs over the years to go easy first 500 miles, not baby miles, but diff. not bounce it off the limiter. I even discussed this with my engine builder Rebello Racing ( JE pistons/custom FI cams/ S62 crankshaft/ p-n-p heads ).

With every new engine build esp sleeved they recommend not going over 4k rpm for first 500 miles. I've even read not to use synthetic oil for the fist 1000 miles because it works so well it wont break the engine in properly LOL. I mean it's all different cause this is an m3. Just the stuff I've been reading cause I'm looking to build my motor now. Sleeved up and all. Click here to enlarge

It's not a factory engine anymore, babying it is the only way to do.

Just another point of comparison: Porsche hammers the heck out of all of their models on a chassis dyno before shipping each car to dealers.

    Heh, cute.

Retards over there, guy saying he hasn't "heard" of anyone putting out more power when we all know a YSI blown M3 crushed those numbers a long time ago and another guy saying someone should build a DCT. I just can't stand reading that forum.
