I'm glad someone is taking this on. Eventually all DCT owners will need someone to turn to for an upgraded transmission.

They deleted my post on the other forum. The one that pointed out the fact they were seeking to benefit from the work of someone who they banned. I'm done with that place.

Sad that they do that. I'm glad you at least tried to point it out, people will wonder where you went.

Believe me, you aren't losing anything. By alienating you, they are.

SSP cracked open the DCT over the weekend and some surprising things were found. First of all, Kris at SSP told me he was a bit surprised as to the quality of the transmission and how well built it is. It is heavy duty he said and the clutch discs have basically the same pattern but are slightly larger than the GR6 (GTR transmission) pads.

What does this mean? It means the M3 DCT can actually take quite a bit of power. It also means it will be able to take just as much as the GTR, they will end up in approximately the same place in torque capacity. There are numerous other things but I will let Kris chime in himself on that. Here is the trans being taken apart:

Thanks, neither can I. Some very good things planned and there will be benefits for everyone with a DCT. There are already a couple things in the works that you will probably want.

    Sticky -

Can I get your e-mail address? I'm in the process of writing a technical report on this exact DCT, and I could really use some information about your clutch failure for my analysis. If you PM it to me, that would be great.

Part III - The Clutch Discs

Today, we will be getting down to the heart of the tranny, the clutch itself. These multi-plate clutch packs are "wet" as in covered in oil to keep them cool in the transmission. These wet clutch packs handle more torque than dry clutch packs.

Here is what a brand new clutch disc looks like:

Here is what a used clutch disc and steel disc look like:

Here are what mine look like after 12,000 miles:

Click here to enlarge Not bad work, huh? Here is what Kris had to say about it:

So, I managed to burn not only the clutch discs but the steel discs that hold them there in only 12,000 miles, not bad. For those doubting just how much heat is generated in this transmission, there you go. Replacing this clutch pack with better discs made of a different material and superior steel discs will be the heart of what is being done. Once this is over, the BMW community will have a source of higher torque capacity DCT clutch packs.

    Stay tuned for Part IV.

Had to share this, why some people hate on me for doing this makes me laugh:

Now he's proving that with a DCT you don't necessarily have to be a slave to BMW as many others would have been told, or thought. He is also the currently the forefront of BMW DCT modification as well as thoroughly documenting the build for anyone who wishes to know what this tranny really entails.

So what's so bad about the guy again? I would love to beat an M3 up too, I wouldn't and would also only own an M3 with a row-it-yourself, but someone who does it knowing full well what he's getting himself into is fine in my book.
Loved the response by konigwheels, right on, and that is how I feel and what I aim to share.

It's a technical report on the engine for a college power transmission class. It will be read by one professor, and then discarded. It's not going to be posted anywhere, or circulated. It's just a test of our understanding of a concept.

Finally found this thread..lol. You sir definitely smoked your clutches and steels. Those are by far the worst I've ever seen. No worries, we will have you up and running soon enough, and making more power then you thought was possible.
