Just realized this is an S62 swap from and E39 M5 and not a S85 swap, my apologies. Don't know how to edit the title.

No problem! I didn't look at this because I thought it was the same thing as the other thread, lol.

Yep, this is the one I was thinking of!

I believe the owner put it on the backburner as he has an ongoing E46 project and his engine builder is particularly slow.

Hi everyone. there will be no update, the car will not be finished this year after all. Have bought a E46 M3 that I'll be building and driving this year. The main reason the E30 is at stand still is the engine builder is pretty slow, so I haven't got the engine back, and I have a lot of other prosjects taking all my time. Have almost every part needed to complete it, but it will have to wait.

Honestly, this was a huge project and I didn't think we would see it anytime soon.

I hope it still gets completed.

The oddest thing to me is that the difficult aspects of the swap seem to be complete - motor mounts, tranny mounts, turbo manifolds...charge piping is relatively easy for any skilled fabricator to make. I suppose adapting a standalone EMS with custom harness would take some time. Though it's relatively straightforward to rig up a Megasquirt or other basic set-up.

We are all collectively on the edge of our seats to see what happens with this build. Talk about a teaser!

I only wish we had more builds like this Stateside. My hopeful guess is that as E36s become cheaper and cheaper, more folks will start building them. The E30/36 is like the Supra in Scandinavia!

Yep, I don't really get why the Scandinavians have so many fast BMW's.

My suspicion is that perhaps BMWs are one, more abundant in Europe, and two, cheaper in Europe. That, coupled with few Supra imports (and let's not discredit BMW's engines) provides them with a reliable, capable platform that's easy to find replacement parts for.

I think the BMW Performance world is holding its collective breath on this one. It seems so close to being done; not finishing it would be such a shame.
